Dharma Nick's Interests
|
| General | Nature sustains me, and the sacredness of nature keeps drawing me to its special places. When I've been world-weary I've gone into nature, and have been renewed. Blues is like that. | | Music | Artists I keep going back to--Lightnin Hopkins, Muddy Waters, Tracy Nelson.....Haydn, Mozart, Brahms.... These days spend a lot of time listening to blues podcasts, and ordering CDs from artists I discover there.
| | Television | Democracy Now! | | Books | Have several thousand of them. Reading has been an important activity of mine for over half a century. Now also spend at least an hour everyday reading news and commentary on the internet. One book I've been spending time with recently is the Bible. Another is the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and a third is the I Ching. And...I've also been rediscovering Emily Dickinson lately. A fine poet, sensitive, brilliant, deep, passionate . . . . . and delightful. | | Heroes | Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, Gandhi, H D Thoreau, Martin Luther King jr., Cesar Chavez, just to name just a few. I hate discrimination and dictatorship, and my heroes are all those who fight for freedom and equality for all, with a deep sense of social responsibility, and without the use of rose-colored glasses. |

Dharma Nick's Blurbs |
About me:
Born in Colorado, finished high school in Austin, Texas, and went to college there in the 60s and 70s, after serving four years in the USAF. Although I love other kinds of music as well, when it comes down to it I'm a blues man, plain and simple. Texas blues is at the center, but relatives in Chicago made me aware of Chicago blues, and there's a lot of very good space in between. Live in Japan now, and have been here for a long time.

Who I'd like to meet:
The people who sing and play the blues so beautifully, and those who make the podcasts, to spread the word on what's happening in the blues world today. I've tried to make a list of the blues podcasts I've discovered, and try to listen to regularly. When I know the myspace page of the podcast, I've added it, too. Sometimes there's more than one URL by which the podcast can be reached. They're sort of listed in the order I discovered them.
