Dhopec is an underground hip hop outfit from Newcastle. Our music combines sharp conscious political lyricism, phat live kit laced beats and tight cuts. The band was formed by Rhabdomancer and Doc Fruit in late 2003 and has been getting more resinously dope ever since. In late 2004 Kron Fusion joined the Dhopec massive and we played our first decent support, which was opening for the Herd for a live at the wireless gig. Lately Kronson has headed for Melbourne after 4 years of distinguished service at the drum-helm and now Miko is back in the saddle on the kick snare n hats. Dhopec, let it be known, have great respect for the distinct political current that runs through hip hop . And it is to that current of hip hop that we add our work. Dhopec have much respect for all those hip hop crews and other collectives speaking out against, and organising against blatant instances of bullshit which fucks people over, or fucks up the planet.
Dhopec's first album [self titled] was released in early 2005 after being mixed and mastered by Wasabi from Fortknight Productions. Since then we have had a few tracks played on Triple J and won two awards at the "ABC 1233 Newcastle Music Awards". In 2006 we dropped the 50 buck ep, which has a go at fake gangsta rappers and has a couple of other tracks which are the evolution of the Dhopec sound. In 08 we released our second full length album, Stop the war of terror, start the war on climate change. If you dig the political shit, you'll like this cause its fuckin on point. And if not, you'll still dig it cause the shit sounds real phat like, its pumpin, tasty, chunky hip hop.
You should come and check us out- keepin it real politically, lyrically, drumwise, cutwise and vibewise.

The future of The Loft now seems unpredictable… depends on how the Councillors vote this Thursday, June 25. This is our final chance to make a difference.
Come to the protest this Thursday June 25, gather from 5pm @ Civic Park. If you don’t wish to attend the protest, come to the Council meeting at 6.30pm (It was previously 4.45pm than 5.30pm meeting, but the time changed).
AND
Write these 3 Councillors heartfelt emails. Please don’t be rude or violent.
I HAVE GIVEN ALL THE INFO YOU NEED RIGHT THERE. SO NO EXCUSES. DO IT NOW, OR I WILL HAUNT YOU IN YOUR DREAMS. Really…
IF YOU DON’T DO IT, COUNCIL WILL ONLY BE HEARING FROM BORING ADULTS THAT KNOW NOTHING ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCES @ THE LOFT. THEY JUST THINK THE LOFT IS A WASTE OF SPACE & MONEY.
SO THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOUNGINS… THAT IS YOU! SO DO IT NOW, OR YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE A HELLISH DREAM AND I AM THE DEVILESS…
My favorite is "Dance With Me Shawty, UM HMM," and everyone else's favorite is between "Freeze Wiggle It In My Car," and "Ahead A Suicidal Uppercut To Stay Alive." Holler if you are a DJ or Radio Station, Peace.
