Chest poundin’, whiskey swillin’, southern doom rock ‘n’ roll. Diablo Red is the truth - red hot rock and roll evil, hard, fast, heavy and dirty.
Diablo Red unleashed their debut full length release, "Rojos", in December of 2005, following it up with the well-received "Vol. II: Statue of Mary with Bullhorns" in March, 2006. Their third, and most recent album, "Lower The Troll" was released August of 2007, the collective result of five years of blood, sweat, beer, and dirty, heavy, southern doom rock. “Lower the Troll” would chart almost immediately at 4 on Toronto’s CKLN radio, gaining favor with rock fans on the radio, and on the road as the boys relentlessly gigged to promote its release. The boys of Diablo Red have managed to sell out run after run of their 3 DIY releases, and continue to build a buzz and gain praise both locally and internationally for their honest, hook-laden and heavy brand of hard rock.
Diablo Red originally came to be in 2002, influenced by classic '70s heavy riffage and dirty southern blues rock. Old friends from their days playing in various punk and metal bands in their native Sarnia, Ontario, Robert Ulysses Simon Hare and Billy Diablo began writing the songs that would form the sonic nucleus of Diablo Red after splitting from their previous bands and reconnecting in Toronto. As a result of growing up listening to the incredible 70's rock and 80's and 90's metal playing on Detroit rock radio, Robert and Billy found the natural style of Diablo Red to be somewhere between Black Sabbath, Motorhead and ZZ Top; the vocals a mixture of raw rock emotion and dark blues soul. Long time friend, breakdancing champion, horror author and skin-bashing maniac Brett Savory (also of “the Sarn”) joined the boys in Spring 2002, and the devilish Paul Mancuso joined in 2006, fleshing out the bottom end and solidifying the group's current recording and touring line-up. Diablo Red is currently playing select dates and preparing to record their fourth, as of yet un-named, lp.
“Big, hairy, detuned southern rock is the order of the day when Diablo Red comes through your town. Super-heavy rock with a southern-style chaser. You could put 'em on a bill with 99% of Small Stone Record’s bands, and they'd fit just fine.” - Andrew Carver, National Capital Rock (natcaprock.blogspot.com, Ottawa)
“There are but two bands on this earth where I can walk into a venue and immediately I’m in the moment and completely focused on the band to the exclusion of everything else: one is Motorhead, the other is Diablo Red.” – Miss Barbrafisch, host of CKLN 88.1’s Satan Takes A Holiday radio show (format: metal/rock) and Much Music pundit
We raise a glass to our fans and friends, and the bands we've played with over the years .
