2009 means a lot to Davit Souders. It’s the 19th year for his company Diabolical Productions, LLC, it’s the 30th year for the Oklahoma Scottish Festival where he serves as the entertainment director and has since 2002, it’s the 35th year for Freakers Ball the annual Halloween event held at Cain’s Ballroom that he’s been co-producing since 1992 and Tulsa’s new Hard Rock Casino has eight of his Diabolical produced concert posters on display among their music memorabilia. In 2008 Souders was featured in the Spin Magazine April 2008 issue as a local hero and was voted one of Urban Tulsa Weekly Magazine’s “Hot 100 Movers & Shakers and people to watch in 2007 and 2008”. The 19 years with Diabolical Productions includes his broadcasting experience with the radio shows Technopolis 1990-1994 and eight years featuring local and regional music on Z-104.5 KMYZ The Edge’s Home Groan 1996-2004. He hosted Home Groan Live as well which was also on Z-104.5 featuring live performances from local artists recorded at Cain’s Ballroom 1998-1999. This nineteen-year history has included the many concert events and festivals Souders has produced as Diabolical Productions.
Since 2006, Davit has hosted and programmed for the radio This 70’s Show and the local music show, Local Flavors both on KRSC RSU Radio 91.3FM. And in 2006, he and producer Dustin Parkhurst introduced their internet broadcast/podcast featuring Tulsa area music, Hometown Heroes. In 2007 through 2008, the team delivered 85 weekly one hour episodes for the podcast iROK Radio (Independent Radio Oklahoma) featuring music and musicians from throughout Oklahoma. They have produced podcasts for the Oklahoma Scottish Festival and for Billboard Magazine's World Song Contest.
In the late 1980’s, Souders managed and booked Tulsa’s well known club SRO (Standing Room Only) 1986-1990. He owned the nationally recognized nightclub/music venue IKON 1990-1997 and was behind it’s brief but successful return in 2004, and was the talent/media buyer and production manager for the world famous Cain’s Ballroom 1996-2000 and has been booking shows in the ballroom since 1990. Souders has served as the Associate Director for Billboard Magazine’s World Song Contest and previously on the Tulsa Band Coalition Board of Directors. He has been the Entertainment Director on the Oklahoma Scottish Festival Board of Directors since 2002.
In 2000, Souders was a featured lecturer at the Jim Halsey School of Entertainment And Music Business. During his four semesters, his courses included “Touring and Promotion”, “Nightclub and Music Venue Ownership & Management” and “The World Of Radio”. Beginning in fall of 2008, Souders again contributed to the series as the Halsey Institute began taping new online courses for colleges and universities around the country.
In 2006 and continuing through 2008, Souders was named the Festival/Production Coordinator and Talent Buyer for D-Fest, Oklahoma's 2-day music festival featuring over 150 local, regional and national artists. His contribution to the festival in 2007 helped them achieve a record attendance of 40,000. In 2008 Souders helped the event again break records by giving them their best star-studded line-up to date, resulting in an estimated attendance of 60,000.
As a performer and recording artist, Souders garnered four Tulsa World Spot Magazine Award nominations and two wins with his band DDS. The Spot Music Awards are the Oklahoma equivalent to the Grammys. Souders has fronted the bands Lynx, DDS, Rideshy Ritual, I Am Jet Fuel and is a member of the local all-star band Team Galaxy, which appears each holiday season performing on TV. All five groups have enjoyed the privilege of performing at the historic Cain’s Ballroom. As an emcee Souders has worked at the Cain’s Ballroom, The Mansion Theater in Branson, Missouri, SXSW in Austin, Texas, Mayfest and the Van Trese Performing Arts Center, both in Tulsa, and at Oklahoma State University.
In 2006, Diabolical Productions became the parent company for DiaboliTrade, which oversees the concert poster and show file archives for Diabolical Productions, Diabolicast for all related broadcast/podcast productions and the label Hex Appeal Records which released it’s first cd that same year. Future plans include the launch of DiaboliGear which will feature original graphic design t-shirts, postcards and buttons. Souders writes for his blog Souders/Speak and is currently working on a book with photographer Kelly Kerr.
