Born the fifth child in a family of seven. Music was an integral part of my upbringing with a professional Cellist for a mother, I went to and was exsposed to all kinds of classical music , live and recorded. I was lucky to have piano lessons early on,and was drawn to the great composers( Beethoven,Chopin, Bach ), but didn't get the direction nor attention I needed to continue .I really wanted to play drums, but that was vetoed .Also studied flute for 2 years with two very fine flautists, but when I discovered guitar as a teenager that was it and I was never the same ! I learned on my own, my first goal being able to play as well as Stephen Stills . I took some college guitar music/theory classes, and was lucky to have studied classical guitar, briefly, privately with John Bent ( composer ) and then in my 20's studied with the affable, chord master-arranger Horace Hatchett .Tried to get published as a songwriter, didn't like performing all that much ,not much of a hustler-businesswoman (nor one to jump thru any hoops ),hated bars, nothing stuck ,,didn't really fit in the late 80's -90's music scene ( which was pretty scuzzy/scary ) settled down became a mom , always maintaining/nuturing my own musical/lyrical creative-intuitive side.Part of me felt like writing songs was kinda silly,( especially coming from a 'classical environment ) didn't really get any respect, nor benefit by it, but i couldn't help it or stop them, and they did make me feel good as they were releasing and or exsposing something ... I've written hundreds of songs usually 30-60+ per year, and more in recent years. Eventually I will write more instrumentals. And paint more .I think songs, good ones ( to me melodic, poetic, rythmical, honest and illuminating ) are such a multi faceted art form, soul and flesh at once, I've always been intrigued by them and listened to every nuance of every song that "got me ", since I was very young. I used to take my radio to bed with me, it was next to my pillow. I called it my"radio world"...
I now teach/practice and write daily and hope to settle this once and for all,I have 15 years worth of decent songs waiting, I feel like I am peaking in some sort of creative vortex as of late ....and many of you are feeling it too..
Good Morning Diana! How are you doing? We have had two weeks of very sunny and hot weather. It's been almost California weather:) But now it's more normal Swedish weather and I guess I have to work again haha!
Hi Diana! I'm in heaven after seeing the legendary Bunny Wailer here tonight. The show was the greatest one I have experienced in many many years!! Bob Marley performed on the same stage some 30 years ago. Bunny sang several songs of Bob as a homage to that event and to his legacy. I was there when Bob Marley performed so many years ago. I danced and sang all through the concert and now I'm exhausted but happy.
I am studying Ortho-Bionomy. It's a type of bodywork/massage technique. Very gentle and more effective than regular massage. Too bad my head's already on the road.
