In May of 2000, Lou DiBella launched DiBella Entertainment (DBE), a full-service sports and entertainment company. DBE is one of the most successful companies in boxing.
Serving as matchmaker, television distributor, marketing advisor, and promoter, DiBella has developed an exciting stable of championship caliber, world class fighters.
Jermain Taylor, the undefeated, undisputed middleweight champion of the world after his dismantling of Bernard Hopkins in July 2005 and December 2005 and a 2000 Olympic Bronze Medallist has become the rising star in boxing under DiBella’s guidance.
DBE promotes many former amateur champions who are now considered stars on the rise - including Paulie Malignaggi and junior middleweight upstart Sechew Powell.
One of boxing’s great welterweight champions, Ike "Bazooka" Quartey was coaxed out of retirement in 2005 and is on the comeback trail.
The now retired “Irish” Micky Ward fought his three legendary battles with Arturo Gatti and cemented his legacy as a DBE fighter. Ward’s life story is currently in development for a feature film with Paramount Pictures.
DBE has clearly established itself as the leader in New York boxing with the successful launch of its monthly televised “Broadway Boxing” series in April, 2004. “Broadway Boxing” is exclusively broadcast in high definition by Mark Cuban’s HDNet and is subsequently telecast to over thirty million homes by SportsNet New York in the New York Metropolitan Area, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet Southeast, Comcast SportsNet West and Comcast Local-Detroit.
“Broadway Boxing” is a home base for New York based fighters such as 140 lb. undefeated phenom Dmitriy Salita and top contenders Emmanuel Clottey and Edgar Santana.
In January of 2005, DiBella teamed up with fashion and hip-hop entrepreneur Damon Dash, the CEO of Pro Keds, Dash Music Group and Dash Films, to announce the formation of DASH/DIBELLA PROMOTIONS, a promotional company with an emphasis on promoting and marketing minority athletes. Future stars such as Curtis Stevens, Jaidon Codrington and 2004 Olympian Andre Berto fight under the Dash/DiBella banner.
DiBella Entertainment specializes in the negotiation of television contracts, promoting, matchmaking and the negotiation of marketing deals for the fighters it represents. DiBella Entertainment intends to build upon the unique insights Lou DiBella developed as a television executive and matchmaker to combat the contractual exploitation of professional boxers.
DiBella Entertainment is a company unlike any in existence, representing professional prizefighters, while also developing original television programming, films and documentaries. In January 2005, DBE launched DBE Productions. DBE Productions is a full service production company that will focus on the development of feature films, cutting edge documentaries, satellite radio projects, original television programming, and legitimate theater.
Additionally, DBE has incorporated Heavy Game Management, which will further the careers of up and coming musical artists. A tireless advocate of boxing reform, DiBella has been a leader in the movement for federal regulation, uniform health and safety standards and a national boxing commission.
DiBella Entertainment intends to build upon the unique insights Lou DiBella developed as a television executive and matchmaker to combat the contractual exploitation of professional boxers. DiBella Entertainment will:
1. create a business model that shifts the balance of power from promoters to boxers.
2. establish a legacy of matchmaking excellence in an effort to improve the health of the boxing industry.
DiBella Entertainment will represent its athletes with honesty and integrity, all while making the best and fairest financial deals for its clients.
