DICK ADAMS MP's Blurbs |
About me:
I am very busy during the Winter break from Parliament and will be out and about in the electorate of Lyons visiting your area!! Dick is also Chairperson of the Primary Industries Committee and will sometimes be out of the State undertaking duties.. Myspace Layouts - Myspace Editor - Image Hosting
I was born in Launceston in Northern Tasmania in 1951 and havelived and worked in Tasmania most of my life, except for a short period in Queensland. I was educated locally at Cressy District High School and my first job was in the meat industry at the Longford Meatworks. I became the union delegate of Australasian Meat Industry Employees' Union. I worked with the union until 1979 when I gained a seat in the Tasmanian House of Assembly as an ALP Member for Franklin.
I was elected to Federal Parliament in 1993 and was re-elected in 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004 and most recently in November 2007 and have now turned Lyons into a "reasonably safe" Labor seat. Placing my office in my electorate at Perth, instead of in Launceston, I set an agenda to be a champion for small towns and rural areas. From 2006, I was alloted a second office, because of the size of the electorate, and this is located at New Norfolk. I also share an office at Sorell.
Since being elected, I have set up my offices to be able to spend as much time as I possibly can in the electorate, doing a tour around with my mobile office whenever Federal Parliament is not sitting. I travel well over 50,000 km a year talking to people, solving problems and visiting activities in Lyons.
I will continue my commitment to the electorate of Lyons, to finding jobs and developing a better quality of life.
