400 Attend West Park Modern Jazz Concert

An appreciative audience of more than 400 persons heard the Dick Dennis Octet play modern jazz last night in West Park.

Eleven arrangements played by the group were all arranged by Mike of Allentown.  Mike, who plays piano, is 19 and in his second year at the Berkley School of Music, Boston.

The octet started the program with its theme “Lawless Mike” and were then introduced by master of ceremonies Don Kidwell of radio station WEST, Easton.

Dennis of Northampton was featured on alto sax in the second number, “Dear Old Stockholm.”

On “Phil’s Blues,” Dennis split the octet into a quartet of piano, bass, drums and alto.

Art, trumpet was featured in “Killer Joe.”

A trio of piano, base and drums was next with a soft interpretation of Israel.”

Tom, drummer, composed the group’s sixth number in Orange Ade.”

Then the quartet returned with a quiet, peaceful, composition titled “Whisper Not.”

“So What?” featured Dennis on soprano sax and Henry on bass.

The group then moved through “Shepherd Boy,” written by Tom and Joy Spring.”

The octet closed with “Send ’em Home,” written by Mike.

oh...that's beautiful and pleasant!

i like to listen to bop and cool jazz in the morning, like my grandpa used to when i was just five years old.

it's nice to know that this music comes from a old tape from the sixies!

i reckon you were the dummer... well maybe for the 104th anniversary of the miners strike we'll get two drum sets onstage. probably on one piece i'm supposed to play one...
