My name is Dick Gautier. I'm an actor, comedian, composer, singer and author, and probably best known for my portrayal of Hymie the Robot in the television series Get Smart.
I was born in Culver City, California at the tender age of 0. In high school my bizarre sense of humor did not find an appreciative audience in the teaching staff. The drama club allowed me to appear in a few plays. Before you could say Orson Welles, I was writing shows, doing standup and singing with a local band.
I was performing my weird mix of voices, sound effects, pantomime and odd rubbery faces at the Village Vanguard, Blue Angel, No. 1 fifth Avenue, and Bonsoir. I won the title role over 750 actors in 'BYE BYE BIRDIE'. I appeared on Broadway winning a Tony award, and Most Promising Actor nominations.
I began working in TV and motion pictures in Los Angeles.
I've guest starred in over 800 television shows, 'GET SMART' where I created the unforgettable character of Hymie, the white-collar robot , and 'WHEN THINGS WERE ROTTEN'. I've appeared on talk and game shows, 'THE TONIGHT SHOW', MERV GRIFFIN, DINAH SHORE, 'PASSWORD', 'THE LIARS CLUB', 'MATCH GAME' and 'HOLLYWOOD SQUARES'. I hosted 'IT'S YOUR BET', and 'CAN YOU TOP THIS?', until the mumps sidelined me.
I've performed in dramatic roles and comedy: 'MURDER SHE WROTE', 'MATLOCK', 'THE ROCKFORD FILES', 'HAPPY DAYS', 'ZORRO', 'MARY TYLER MOORE', DORIS DAY, 'CHARLEY'S ANGELS', "LOVE AMERICAN STYLE, 'LOVEBOAT, and FANTASY ISLAND.
I've appeared in TV Movies such as 'MARATHON', 'THIS WIFE FOR HIRE', 'BENNY and BARNEY', and feature films 'DIVORCE AMERICAN STYLE', 'FUN WITH DICK AND JANE', 'ENSIGN PULVER' and 'BILLY JACK GOES TO WASHINGTON'.
I've toured in 'THE MUSIC MAN', 'BRIGADOON', 'CABARET', 'BABY', 'THEY'RE PLAYING OUR SONG' and 'I DO! I DO!'. I played seven different characters in NEIL SIMON'S hilarious 'LITTLE ME' and JOHN GUARE'S 'THE HOUSE OF BLUE LEAVES', 'SOUTH PACIFIC'. I directed 'MASS APPEAL', winning many awards, 'CACTUS FLOWER' and 'CALIFORNIA SUITE'.
You've heard my voice in animated series; 'G.I.JOE', 'THE TRANSFORMERS', 'SPIKE n' TYKE', 'FOOFUR', 'PIRATES OF DARK WATER' 'THE SMURFS', 'THE GOBOTS', 'SKY COMMANDERS', 'GARFIELD', 'BATMAN', 'JAMES BOND JR', and 'DUCK TALES'. I'm the smooth voiced narrator of the Discovery Channel's 'SEARCH FOR ADVENTURE ' series.

About me: "Hymie never stifled my career. He only enhanced it. I know kids who were named Hymie because they looked like me."
I'm an Actor, comedian, composer, singer and author. Probably best known for my portrayal of Hymie the Robot in the television series Get Smart. However, I starred as Robin Hood in the short-lived TV comedy series "When Things Were Rotten", a Mel Brooks send-up of the classic legend, as well as guest appearances on many other television programs, including Matlock, Columbo, Quincy and Murder, She Wrote.
I voiced Rodimus Prime in the third season of the Transformers animated series from 1986-1987, as well as Serpentor in the G.I. Joe series and was a narrator for Discovery Channel's Search For Adventure; I'm also known for my caricatures of celebrities.
I started out originally as a night-club comic and singer for dance orchestras. I served in the US Navy and proudly joined ASCAP in 1959. My popular-song compositions include "Like Our Love", "Lonely River" and "Quiet Place".
Was nominated for Broadway's 1961 Tony Award as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Musical) for "Bye, Bye Birdie."
I voiced the unstable villain Serpentor on GI Joe and the reluctant second leader of the Autobots, Rodimus Prime, on Transformers.
My hobbies (who has the time?) are tennis, closeup magic, etymology and crosswords (the harder the better). I've written articles for TV GUIDE, NATIONAL LAMPOON, MAD MAGAZINE, and GENIE MAGAZINE. I've designed greeting cards, built doll houses, demonstrated pogo sticks at Macy's, painted portraits on commission and still managed to squeeze in a couple of wives, three terrific kids (Chrissie, Randy and Denise), and a few charming grandchildren.
I saw a little girl, after being disciplined, stick her tongue out at her Dad & later said "I wasn't sticking my tongue out at you, I was trying to lick my face. "
