I've been playing traditional music since 1973, both in my native Scotland & in Ireland too, where I have lived almost half my life. As well as English & Anglo Concertinas, I also play the Fiddle, my main instrument, plus Hammered Dulcimer & Mandolin. I've been playing Anglo Concertina for over 30 years & only took up the English Concertina this year, that's why the tracks above are of my Anglo playing, but as soon as I can, I'll replace them with some tunes on my English Concertinas.

I picked up my first Concertina, a mahogany ended 30b Anglo ~ Lachenal, while living in Dublin in the late 1970s. In 1992, I bought a beautiful wee Jeffries 26b. This year I bought my first English Concertina, a beautiful Wheatstone Treble 22. However I recently sold my Jeffries & my model 22 & I now own a Wheatstone Aeola Tenor Treble Concertina {28004} (1919) & am soon to acquire my very own Wheatstone Aeola Baritone Concertina {31366} (1927)

I hope you enjoy the collection of wonderful YouTube videos below, which I hope, help to demonstrate some of the magical music that the English Concertinas in capable of producing ... in the right hands.

Many thanks to Dave Prebble who not only carried out a brilliant 10,000 tune service on my Jeffries, and had the good sense to sell me such a beautiful old Wheatstone Treble but he also gave me all these great photos of both instruments you see below. If you need a Concertina repaired or serviced, in my book ~ he's yer man!

I've not seen The Bolton Bullfrog since I lived in Lincolnshire in the early 90s. He rarely ventures to the Deep South of England. Maybe he would if he knew that quality mushy peas are available on the south coast !
Hey Mr. Glasgow ! It looks like we both have Wheatstone 56 key Aeolas ! My serial number is: 35652 Another Concertina Friend of mine, Peter Persoff (in Oakland,Ca.)looked it up back in 1976, and I think it was made in the 1930s ? I bought it for $200 in May of 1974,from Joseph Fiacre, a Concertina Player/Collector. His specialty was Amboyna Wood ended, Philharmonic Pitched "tinas" in A=452, and he didn't need a A440 instrument in Black-wood. He even told me to take out the Bottom 5 notes (10 reeds) so the "Tina" would be lighter weight. I never did that, because I love those low notes ! Regards to you and Thanks for clicking on Me !!! Sean The Piper
Why thank you, I might say the same about you. You must be really taken with EC if you've given up playing anglo as well as that. See you on concertina. net
Hi Dick, Thanks for finding us on myspace! just picked up the requ. Enjoying hearing the great playing you have on here, and glad to hear you're enjoying the CDs All the best for Christmas and New Year, Frances
Hi Dick, thanks for the request. great looking site you have here. Yep, it was prettty nippy that day, but good to find an excuse to be outside in November! all the best, Frances
Hi Dick, glad you found me. I'm always happy to add musicians as my friends, especially those who play fiddle and mandolin.
I'm afraid my concertina playing is on the back burner atm, it started to eat into my fiddle practice time. Playing in two bands I need to keep my chops up on fiddle and my playing was really suffering. One day (maybe when I retire) I hope to have time to seriously get back into the English Concetina.
Thanks for the add! I love the English concertina, it's one of my favourite instruments to play. It's a really big shame it doesn't get any more attention in folk music nowadays. And here in Belgium practically nobody has even heard of the thing.
