Sounds Like
"It’s the intimacy of these songs that ultimately make them so alluring; Haydon is first and foremost a writer, a poet even. The words and the cadence with which he sings them are what catches the listener’s ear and makes them long to listen again. Every one of Hunger Pangs’ six songs has a beautiful nostalgic air about it, and no one can resist a bit of heartwarming wistfulness."
- W Weekly (Lexington, KY)
"[Hunger Pangs] is a surprisingly impressive run through. [Dickie] has hit all the high marks a young singer/songwriter should. His songs are personal and gentle and you feel like he is letting us into his own little world."
- Comfort Comes Audio Blog
"To look at Dickie Haydon, with his shaggy hair and pointy-toed boots, you might think he would be writing songs that sounded more like Bishop Allen or Rogue Wave than oh, say… Willie Nelson, but you would be mistaken."
Everything Is Audio Blog
"Haydon's solo work would fair well on a mixtape containing songs by Brendan Benson, Ryan Adams, or possibly even some of Lennon's post-Beatles' efforts."
Dickie Haydon is the solo outfit of the Lexington, KY based singer/songwriter, currently of The Scourge Of The Sea (Alias Records (Yo La Tengo, Archers Of Loaf, American Music Club, etc.)) and Petticoat, Petticoat (Kalmia Records). Based around his love of warm, homemade recordings, Haydon's songs arrive at a simple yet intriguing outcome of musical gems that zig zag across the borders of indie/pop, rock, and folk.
Honestly:
I was born in West Virginia but have lived in Kentucky since I was 4 years old. I consider it my true home. I started writing music with my best friends in wonderfully awful punk rock bands in my dad's basement when I was 13. My music is about living in an infinitely nostalgic world.
My homemade, self-released EP entitled, Hunger Pangs, is available NOW. Supporting tour dates can be seen above where you are currently reading.
