  • Bio

.... It was on July 22,1996 when the Meier Family made their move from the north-eastern part of Switzerland (near Zurich) to the west-coast of Canada, for a hope of a better life as a large family. At that time Arthur and Renate Meier had already been blessed with their one girl and 7 boys. It wasn't for another 2 full years in Canada till the 2 newest members of the family had arrived, and the Meier family was complete. Arthur having had his own music school back in Switzerland with a Music Major in classical trumpet, gave the children a chance ( or as the kids called it "a curse" :-)) to start playing instruments at an early age. When they came they got face to face with a whole new world, which was a culture shock at first. The family only knew a few people in Canada, Swiss German was their only spoken language, and the music industry was a whole new topic. This is where a new era for the Meier Family began. It was hard for them at first, but as time passed it got easier for all of them. They made friends, learned the English language and got to settle in to their new home. Many of the children picked up other instruments on the way and had a blast getting to know different styles of music. One of the grounds where they could relate to the North American music was when it came to Gospel hymns and worship related songs. The parents, Art and Renate, believe strongly that the gospel of Christ is the most important believe that they wanted their kids to have, and so church music was something they all grew into. The Meier Family Band name was later changed to mf12 ( meier family with their 10 kids and parents = 12) They recorded their first CD in 1997 at the Whiskey Cove Recording Studio in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. The 11 songs on the CD had a strong influence of (a) classical style, mixed with a gospel influence. In 2001 their second CD, "I need you", was recorded in a small, private recording studio in New Westminister, about 20 minutes outside of Vancouver. The 12 songs on there had a wide variety of styles that ranged from electric mix of Gospel influenced, folk, country, classical, R&B, rock, and jazz. The wide variety of styles had evolved do to the fact that different members of the family wrote the different songs, each with an interest in a different area of musical style. It was a struggle for them all to find a common ground, a style, in which they could all relate to. This is what brought them all back to record their third CD which is to this day still in process. The focus of style has shifted to a more jazz/soft-rock and hip-hop groove. Where the music will lead the Meier family is for all of them still a big mystery. They all have a huge passion for music and believe that with God's grace and time they'll be able to share more of their music with the world around them.
