also, i recently saw grave of the fireflies with my sister and she wanted to see it again as though we'd been watching barney & friends and did not just see a girl die of starvation! children brains do not register or dispense empathy, I've decided of kids <7yrs. too, they are crazy: sister romero was starved for rice and candy for two days. mimicry, perhaps, is how they understand sorrow at this point. like people who spontaneously develop jerusalem syndrome at holy sites.
