Influences
Ragtime, Jazz, Bluegrass, Folk Baroque, Bosa Nova, World music, Singer/Songwriter styles, and various acoustic music...Personal influences vary, but the sound of Diddly Deux is inspired by these musical styles.
Diddly Deux is an international acoustic duet featuring Amira Porporina and Chris Puente. The sound of Diddly Deux is quite original. Very hard to classify or define, the duo presents a new flavour to music. Unique vocals, powerful strings, and a melodic hand-drum create a pleasing sound to many ears. Diddly Deux composes a variety of songs that are generally fun, uplifting, and great for toe-tapping. Once an awhile, a mellow song will come along. But Diddly Deux loves fun! The opening track “Diddly Doo” on the new album Reasons is already a hit with listeners due to its catchy and upbeat nature and good message.
The original sound of Diddly Deux is brought on by a number of things. Amira Porporina is the duet’s lead vocalist and sings with an energy and soul reminiscent of the Jazz/Blues divas of the 1920s-1940s. This combined with her faery presence and touch of other-worldly sound create a mesmerizing result. She is also the group’s percussionist. Amira plays a melodic clay pot drum called an Udu. This is the duo’s primary percussion at present. Amira also plays a variety of hand drums, as well as a folk harp that are making their way into Diddly Deux’s music.
Chris Puente also does vocal work for the duo. His vocals are also quite unique with a gentle strength that resembles his person. However, most of his focus goes into his strings. Chris is a highly regarded guitarist. He plays an arrangement of guitars in a variety of tunings. Chris’s guitar work is as diverse as it is strong. He also plays banjo, bass, Appalachian dulcimer, mandolin, and hand drums.
The combination of these two vocals creates a wonderful harmony. The overall sound of Diddly Deux is a lovely balance. The song writing of the duo is thoughtful, passionate, and at times whimsical. Live, Diddly Deux is a charming and high-energy duet that captivates audiences of all ages. With the light mood and danceability of the duo’s music, Diddly Deux is good day or night.
Eager to share the music that they love with the world, Diddly Deux has toured around America and a bit in New Zealand. With the release of the new album, “Reasons”, Amira and Chris are planning to tour the world extensively these next couple of years. Diddly Deux has been featured on live radio shows and in the press in America and New Zealand, as well.
The new album titled Reasons is now out and available. Chris's website is www.chrispuente.com. Amira's is www.mudfaerywood.com. Thanks for stopping in! And thanks for listening. Diddly Deux

An unique and eclectic blend of ragtime, swing, world, blues, punk, and folk.
I just want to let you know that I've started recording a new groovy album, and you can follow the process on my blog: http://blog. jcschutz. net
I am posting photos and short samples of the unfinished songs, to give everyone that's interested the possibility to follow the creation of a CD, to hear how the songs slightly change until the final result.
My new CD will hopefully be released in september 2008.
"The energy of everything flows like the great rivers of the earth, naturally rolling and splashing, slipping and spiraling through the paths of least resistance toward the swelling, dreaming sea. Our life began in the waters of our mother's living womb. Grandmother Moon pulls and releases the ocean tides and the water in our bodies allowing energy and intuition to flow freely through our feelings and our spirits. Water has memory and is alive, responding to our emotions and healing old sorrows, teaching us playfully to release and renew. Water evaporates from the sea and transpires from trees to return as cleansing, life giving rain. All life needs clean water to survive. The spirit and sacredness of water is honored by all people who respect life. Swimming or floating in pools and lakes, streams and rivers our bodies and bright spirits receive the wisdom of water, honoring our emotions, remembering the love and mysteries of our source, embraced in wholeness and serenity."
