Bio:
Robert Hicks or HYX (as he is known in the electronic music community) was born in Washington D.C. in 1982. He began his journey into the electronic music culture when he was only 15-years-old. Performing at clubs in and around the D.C./Metro area, some of which he wasn't legally old enough to get into as a patron, he quickly began building a reputation as a truly integral part in the D.C. drum and bass community.
In high school, HYX acquired his first taste of music production and this drove him to collect studio gear. A Power Macintosh G4 and an EMU Sampler were the first machines he used. He picked up production techniques very easily and had his first release with Corrupt Souls, which was the hit 1138 on Black Sun Empire Recordings, a world-renowned drum and bass label. Shortly after the huge success of his debut, the duo released Brood-X on OBSEssions, Black Sun's tangent label.
In 2008, HYX and Telemetrik were back at it with the release of The Bane and Rouge City both on Telemetrik's full-length album My Lightyear. With his continuing success, HYX branched off into the techno realm to remix Halfway There, which was released on the massive label System Recordings originally by Carlo Del and Edan Everywhere. He has since gone on to remix Metachemical's Hearing Voices, rearranging, adding his own style and engineering to the breakbeat track to make a 174 BPM drum and bass roller.
