| General | "With so many studios selling their prefabricated garbage as something unique, original or entertaining, a one-of-a-kind entertainment like Die You Zombie Bastards! (Image) is the most wonderful kind of surprise. It is truly the Troma movie that comapny has been trying to deliver for the last 15 years: two tons of hysterically funny bad taste delivered with good old-fasioned talent and charm. It details the exploits of a serial-killer superhero, wearing a costume decorated with human flesh, on a quest to rescue his girlfriend from the nefarious clutches of...well, Baron Nefarious, of course! Shot on 16mm (and presented in a colorful, acurately preserved full-frame presentation), it looks and sounds better than you'd expect, especially given the financial limitations. The fervent imagination of the production crew, a uniformly enthusicastic and charming group of performers, energetic direction, smart scripting and a mischeviously playful editor help create an onscreen world filled with admirably off kilter details and characters that not even the most impoverished budget could squelch.
The well-chosen special features include the commentary by writer/ director Caleb Emerson and writer/producer Haig Demarjian that is informative and funny: raw behind the scenes footage from various points in the production; Emerson interviewed on a public access program (complete with clips from early shorts that were the inspiration for the feature); interview footage with rockabilly pioneer / costar Hasil Adkins; and, most hilariously, an ADR session with star Tim Gerstmar and Emerson that showcases just how hilarious and talented Gerstmar is - as if the movie didn't already provide that proof. This actor could easily become the next Bruce Campbell - he's really that good"
