To us hardcore is about a sense of community and believing in a positive social change that can come out of it. We as humans have a responsibility to take care of one another (humyn, animal, environment). The following are a few links we feel can be beneficial...GET RADICAL!
Environmental Sea Shepherd - "to conserve and protect the world's marine wilderness eco-systems and marine wildlife species." Hey they've got a ship with a barbed wire electric fence and MacGyver on their board of directors. How cool is that!
Scenic Hudson - An environmental organization and land trust working to protect, preserve and restore the Hudson River and its riverfront as a public and natural resource.
Clear Water - Clearwater, based out of Poughkeepsie, NY, conducts environmental education, advocacy programs and celebrations. They also have a really cool old ship.
Earth First! Journal - "the voice of the radical environmental movement...it contains reports on direct action; articles on the preservation of wilderness and biological diversity; news and announcements about EF! and other radical environmental groups; investigative articles; critiques of the entire environmental movement; book and music reviews; essays exploring ecological theory and a sometimes-lively letters to the editor section."
Human Rights Human Rights Watch - "We are lawyers, journalists, academics, and country experts of many nationalities and diverse backgrounds who investigate and expose human rights violations and hold abusers accountable...We stand with victims and activists to prevent discrimination, to uphold political freedom, to protect people from inhumane conduct in wartime, and to bring offenders to justice."
Health / Animal Welfare Vegan Outreach - a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to reducing animal suffering by promoting a vegan lifestyle. VO works to expose and end cruelty to animals through the widespread distribution of our illustrated booklets.
Vegan Health - a website managed by Vegan Outreach that is a great resource for vegan health concerns including many that other organtions do not address.
Compassion Over Killing - a nonprofit animal advocacy organization based in Washington, D.C. Working to end animal abuse since 1995, COK focuses on cruelty to animals in agriculture and promotes vegetarian eating as a way to build a kinder world for all of us, both human and nonhuman.
Farm Santuary - Organization in upstate NY that rescues farm animals and rehabilitates them to either live on their farm or be placed into homes. Farm Sanctuary also publishes literature and works to educate the public.
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine - A nonprofit organization made up of doctors and laypersons that promote preventive medicine, conducts clinical research, and encourages higher, more compassionate standards for ethics and effectiveness in research.
Substance Abuse National Institute on Drug Abuse - The science of drug and alcohol abuse. Conatains fact sheets about legal and illegal substances.
News Indy Media - "a collective of independent media organizations and hundreds of journalists offering grassroots, non-corporate coverage. Indymedia is a democratic media outlet for the creation of radical, accurate, and passionate tellings of truth."
AlterNet - "news magazine and online community that creates original journalism and amplifies the best of dozens of other independent media sources...aim is to inspire citizen action and advocacy on the environment, human rights and civil liberties, social justice, media, and health care issues."
Democracy Now! - "a national, daily, independent, award-winning news program airing on over 450 stations in North America." The hour long special streams daily on site for free.
Z-Mag - A community of people committed to social change.
Cycling Burrito Project - "It is a way for people to bridge a gap between the fed and the hungry." Groups of amazingly kind and generous people who ride bikes around cities across the globe delivering food to those who are hungry. Most importantly, the link has details for how to start or get involved with a project near YOU.
Bike Collective Network - Directory of community bike collectives/churches/etc.
