Dimitri Artemenko is a Russian Ukrainian Gypsy, born in Estonia and based in France. He started to study the piano at the age of 3 with his mother, a former classical pianist. Hearing the violin once on the radio changed his life forever and he can't imagine a day without playing this amazingly expressive instrument. He won his first national youth competition when he was 8 years old and plays as a soloist with a chamber orchestra, composes for the theatre and cinema, and plays and records with many rock, folk and early music bands. Music has an almost religious value to him. He is part of that generation of musicians who, with thorough training as a classical musician, is always looking for new ways of expression with traditional, improvised, medieval or contemporary music.
