SONS OF ABRAHAM - EP LAUNCH
THURSDAY 24TH JULY 8PM/$6

Sons Of Abraham started out as an attempt to free ourselves from any possible distractions and surrender to the music making process. The music grew naturally and is now at a point where it is ready to share with anyone eager to listen. On Thursday 24th July, we are launching our Debut EP The Pushing Foreword at Ding Dong Lounge. Recorded with Reggie Bowman at Scream Louder Studios, The Pushing Foreword is a culmination of the Sons Of Abraham journey so far: From the rehearsal room, to a year and half of gigs around Melbourne, to The Pushing Foreword. Heavy, Melodic and above all Honest, what you hear on the CD is what you get live. To help launch the EP we have put together a killer live lineup at Ding Dong: A STATE OF FLUX, EVE'S PROTEGE, FADING HOUR. Since we find it paradoxical to write an autobiography in the third person, we are left saying: Only the music matters. www.myspace.com/sonsofabrahamband

THE BLOW WAVES
FRIDAY 25TH JULY 8PM/$10

Brewing in the seedy underbelly of Melbourne’s live scene for over two years The Blow Waves (ex Mavis’s dom Matt Thomas and ex. Love Outside Andromeda’s Jamie Slocombe) are fast becoming known for their iconic blend of disco infused punk and danceable anthems. After a sell out single launch for the release of “Little Bitch” The Blow Waves bring their debaucherous, visually infectious live show to the Ding Dong stage on Friday 25th July for a night of pure indulgence. The Blow Waves have been tearing up the live scene in Australia over the last year touring and playing to sell out crowds nationally, with live reviews like “The performance is a raunchy trashfest and is epitomised by the bands desire to have random underwear thrown… it is fair to say that if one would want to have a trashy party one would want The Blow Waves to provide the entertainment.” – Inpress magazine, the live show is definitely one not too miss. With the amount of interest this band is gathering make sure you join in on the antics now, glam it up, pull out your old undies and come and see them live at Ding Dong. With THE MINORITY, VULTURES OF VENUS. www.myspace.com/theblowwaves

The band is sure to be a hit with foreign audiences having built a formiddable reputation on the live circuit matching their precision with raw emotion and intensity. “It’s like being pinned up against a wall by your lover and being taken aggressively but respectfully and walking away exhausted, satisfied... but wanting more!” says Vocalist Drew Kario. TOKYO POLICE CLUB (CAN) - Selling fast!!
TUESDAY 29TH JULY 8PM

Secret Sounds is pleased to announce Tokyo Police Club will hit Australian shores for the first time next month on a whirlwind East Coast tour. Tokyo Police Club’s debut full-length album Elephant Shell has been exceeding expectations beyond the success of their previous mini-album A Lesson In Crime. Elephant Shell reached No. 1 on the US Billboard charts for both Top New Artist and Alternative Artist. The album has been well received by MTV, being featured on Discover and Download, TRL First Look, and Big Ten. The band has also made their US TV debut with a recent appearance on the David Letterman show. Described by vocalist/bassist David Monks as "wide-eyed post-punk with a tendency to get over excited..." Tokyo Police Club have been honing their sound and tempering their musical moods to bring a full-length that encapsulates all the energy and rapid-fire intonation of A Lesson In Crime with the advantage of maturity and focus to produce an album of rare gems and dance-along classics. Recorded in Connecticut with Peter Katis (The Grates, Interpol, The National) and Canada’s Jon Drew, Elephant Shell delivers on all the promise of Tokyo Police Club’s earlier work. The Canadian foursome will be joined on the bill by very special guests, Brisbane’s YVES KLEIN BLUE (QLD). www.myspace.com/tokyopoliceclub

ROWLAND S. HOWARD
FRIDAY 1ST AUGUST 8PM/$12

Rowland will be playing further 'exclusive' shows at Ding Dong over the next couple of months before going into the studio to record his new album!! Australian legendary rock musician, guitarist and songwriter, is best known as a member of Melbourne's 70/80's new wave band BOYS NEXT DOOR (Nick Cave), & Howard received international acclaim for writing underground hit, the ballad "Shivers". When the band evolved into THE BIRTHDAY PARTY, Howard's aggressive use of distortion and audio feedback was one distinctive element in the group's "assault" on their audience. The Birthday Party relocated to Germany in 1982, where they became a progressively experimental group, in part due to their art rock leanings, which were developed in the band's formative years. He then went on to form many ohter bands/& projects since including his collaborations with Lydia Lunch and Nikki Sudden, & indie band These Immortal Souls, based in Europe and active through the late 1980s and early 1990s. Currently, Rowland S. Howard lives in Melbourne, Australia and produces and performs occasionally, to the delight of a small, self-renewing audience who consider Howard to be a member of Australian underground rock royalty. With special guests...BASEBALL, BRENDAN BLACK (THE STABS). www.myspace.com/rowlandshoward

TRIAL KENNEDY – ALBUM LAUNCH
FRIDAY 8TH AUGUST 8PM/$20

The so-called ‘next big thing’ in Australian rock is oft-touted, but rarely delivered. So it’s unusual then, when you get an album in the post where every song leaps out and drags you in, where the songwriting is so fresh, so honest, and so original for a change, but also where, for all its immediacy and accessibility, never sounds like some dumbed-down predictable play for high rotation. In the case of Melbourne’s Trial Kennedy, to say unequivocally that “New Manic Art” is that album, and Trial Kennedy are that band. Produced by Atlanta-based uber-producer Nick Didia – a man whose show-reel sports the likes of Powderfinger, Audioslave, Incubus, Stone Temple Pilots – ‘New Manic Art’ is nothing short of a startling debut. An album wielding as much grunt as gravitas, it remains at heart, a bare-boned rock record. Avoiding the pitfalls of overproduction and bells’n’whistles of modern day technology, not a single note of Trial Kennedy’s album sounds sonically superfluous. Rather, the kaleidoscopic array of colours, textures and dynamics on display are the result of a band who have steadfastly honed an impressive collection of songs, worked every nuance, & detail of their songwriting, and a producer who has captured it. It sounds like every record should – like a kick-arse rock band nailing it down live in the studio. www.myspace.com/trialkennedy

CLOSURE IN MOSCOW
SATURDAY 9TH AUGUST 8PM/$12

Having been together for just 18 months, Melbourne's Closure In Moscow - spent more than 6 months honing their skills, into crafting their debut albumette that would not only help them achieve their high aspirations but also define them as musicians. ELEMENT PRESENTS...WAGONS
THURSDAY 21ST AUGUST 8PM/FREE ENTRY

In 1992 the Element seed was planted. The goal was simple, to be the best we could be in the most honest and ethical way possible. There is nothing more important to a brand than it's roots, if you don't know your past your will never know your future. In the case of Element, its roots are in skateboarding and with this comes a lifelong passion for art, music and creativity. These days Element is more than a skateboard brand making hardware; the product on offer is vast, from Men's, boys and girls clothing, to footwear and luggage, the energy is on youth as a whole. Music, art, creativity and skateboarding, these are the cogs that turn the Element wheel. Element is a brand with credibility among the youth, a force for good with a philosophy that says you will do well by doing good things. www.myspace.com/wagonsmusic

With the success of Cherry (Melbourne's first CBD rock'n'roll bar) comes The Ding Dong Lounge - the sister bar to New York City's very own of the same name. The Ding Dong Lounge is filling the void in Melbourne's rock'n'roll scene - sure we got the venues and plenty of bands that want the limelight, but now comes a mid-sized venue that can be your after work drinking hole or a place to see some of the scene's best local and international bands.

The Ding Dong Lounge is nestled in the centre of Chinatown, but never before has a rock bar existed on this strip. The emphasis is on good music, definitely no electronica and stars a host of young DJs spinning the decks with everything from The Ramones, Television, T-Rex, The Runaways, AC/DC, Turbonegro, Iggy & The Stooges and a stack more vintage and contemporary rock to salute you.

According to one of the bar's owners Bill Walsh, Cherry has outgrown its capacity to cater for its rock'n'roll crowd - there's just too many thirsty rock pigs wanting to pack the one den. But now its surrogate sister on the block, The Ding Dong Lounge, has joined the stable to lend a hand. "Instead of waiting for someone else to open up another rock bar we thought we would do it," says Walsh.

Rock'n'roll has stomped all over LA's Sunset Strip and New York's Bowery and East Village for decades. It's indeed obvious that rock fans in Melbourne have craved a similar social set-up - a hangout that exists outside of pubs and extends beyond alternative radio stations. Ding Dong isn't claiming to rewrite history and it doesn't preach to be the new cool - it's simply a venue that's helping keep rock where it needs to be. "We have identified a need in Melbourne for a larger rock'n'roll bar which encompasses all things Cherry including good drinks, friendly staff and great music. All this will be prevalent at the Ding Dong Lounge," says Walsh.

The Ding Dong Lounge in New York City is a dimly lit bar, decorated in band posters, cuckoo clocks, cosy corners and a spacious dancing area. Beer is poured from taps that are made from used guitar and bass necks. Bands that have played there include the Demolition Doll Rods, Cosmic Psychos, The Real Kids and the Lyres.

According to Steve Naidich, who owns Ding Dong New York with partner Bill Nolan, their bar is one of a last dying breed in the city. "It's really old school New York - people in the know, "know". There are no neon signs outside, there's no advertising, and no fanfare. But once you've found it, you're back every night, you're telling everybody you know about it. That's what keeps people coming back."

Walsh was approached by his New York friends Bill Nolan and Steve Naidich to open a sister bar in Australia - they chose Melbourne because it is driven by the same sophisticated rock appreciation that NYC is renowned for. "We liked the New York connection because of the similarities in good music, they are both stylish cities and people in both places have a similar taste in this kind of venue," says Walsh. "The Ding Dong Lounge in the two greatest cities on the planet? What's not to like? But not sure that we like the idea of putting vegemite in the Bloody Mary's," says Naidich. "We're working on a Ding Dong Bagdad!!"

The concept of a rock bar is just that, a concept to many fly-by-night opportunists, but the Ding Dong is something more than a concept. "There will always be a need for the counter-culture place to be subverse and rock out," says Naidich. "It's punk versus disco. The real trend in NYC right now is the fancy lounge. But there's something phoney, fly-by-night about these places. They're not going to be around in five years." "There's so many electronic lounge bars in Melbourne," adds Walsh.
