Hi. My name is Dirk.
In short: I was born in North Germany, grew up in North New Jersey and play a Maton acoustic. Any more...? Here's the lowdown:I used to play in a band called "The Jeremy Days" who were kinda cool, ...most times. I now run "Tapete Records" in Hamburg with my friend Gunther. A lotta really neat bands/artists are out on tapete including The Horror The Horror, Lacrosse, The Elephants,Maplewood, Downpilot, Salim Nourallah, Tess Wiley, etc. etc. etc. plus my own stuff.
I started tapete mainly cause I was sick of recording for labels that weren’t really listening to the albums their own artists were releasing there (my band was on a major label for 7 years!!)
Right, my albums come out on tapete too. My new one 'Life Is No Movie' is out in March 2009. I'll be heading out to clubs with my guitars and Ukulele starting April. For absolutly more Info head on over to my website, which is: www.dirkdarmstaedter.com
“Lieder mit Haltung und mit kleinen aber wirksamen Momenten die den Hörer wie ein Sog in den Song ziehen.
Eine Hommage an den Britpop, zeitlos und - mit Beatles-Anspielungen - die letzten 40 Jahre überspannend.
Life Is No Movie überrascht mit viel Dynamik und Modernität.”
SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG (D) Februar 2009
"Life is No Movie is the anthem of a jilted yet un-jaded soul tuning into movie magic wherever it may surface in this cruel, warped, beautiful world."
TROY BLACKLAWS, Autor of Karoo Boy
Darmstaedter crafts bridges from understatement to pay-off of which a bleaker Neil Finn might be proud.
UNCUT (UK)
"Crisp, polished, and incisive, it alternates itchy, restrained verses with gorgeous, crashing-to-the-shore sort of choruses."
FINGERTIPS (USA)

Lg Kajetan

thank you so much for helping and supporting me with my first book LEAVING THE COMFORT ZONE. The book has been out in Europe for a month now and will be released in the rest of the world in mid October.
I hope that you'll purchase a copy and enjoy it; an artist is nothing without a response, so I look forward to hearing from you. You can order the book on Amazon. com. And of course, if at all possible, please buy it at a nearby shop. Support your local bookstore!
I have some wonderful news. I’ve just had a baby: LEAVING THE COMFORT ZONE, my first book of collected photographs, is published this week in Europe, followed by a release in the States a month later.
After fifteen years of constant traveling, searching and straying, I’ve found myself backstage with rock stars, lost in the middle of the desert and everywhere in between; everywhere but where the road ends. So, LEAVING THE COMFORT ZONE is about taking a moment to look back on this wonderful, weird and winding path I’ve been on.
I hope that you'll purchase a copy and enjoy it; an artist is nothing without a response, so I look forward to hearing from you. You can order the book on Amazon or on Artbook. com. And of course, if at all possible, please buy it at a nearby shop. Support your local bookstore!
