Dirk D, formerly known as Dirk Diggler is one of the veterans of the European Drum and Bass Scene. With the age of 12 he became addicted to music and started to collect records before he joined German Death/Thrash Metal band Assorted Heap as vocalist in 1989. Between 1990 and 1992 he released two albums with this band before they splitted up in 1993. He also started to promote events with the age of 16 and promoted several events as well as he managed the band.
In 1992 he moved to Bremen to study and it must have between 1993 and 1994 when he discovered this new sound swapping over from the UK. Dirk D picked up the breakbeat and jungle vibe started to buy these records and had first experience with deejaying on an old pair of Denon recordplayers alongside a poor Monacor mixer. In 1995 he got his first set of Technics turntables and small gigs here and there were following.
On the business side he started working for an international booking agency as a tourmanager and booker worked for Artists such as Gang Starr, The Fugees, Test Department, Death, Morbid Angel, Testament and numberless more and due to this he decided to quit studying. As he already had the experience and knowledge of promoting events he started a milestone event series called Jungle Mania in 1997. These events brought major artists such as Hype, Mickey Finn, Grooverider, Zinc, Bad Company etc. to Germany and Dirks name got a solid reputation for being a professional and reliable person in the event-business. Two years later he opened his first record shop in Bremen, from now on he and his staff supplied local DJs with the hottest music you could get.
In 2001 he moved to Berlin, opened another record shop there and put more focus on his DJ career. More and more gigs throughout the country were following including legendary sessions at places like Berlins world famous Tresor Club, Sven Väth..s Cocoon Club in Frankfurt, Mannheims Jungle Kindergarden MS Connexion and large festivals such as Nature One, Fusion or Berlinova.
In the same year he also joined forces with South German promoters Cosmopop and found Germany’s legendary event series Kings of the Jungle, which soon become a strong if not the strongest brand for Drum and Bass in central europe with large events up to 4000 people all over Germany as well as a yearly one off at the famous “Rohstofflager” in Switzerlands party capital Zürich.
He has joined the stage with almost every major artist such as Roni Size, Marky, Dillinja, Nicky Blackmarket, Andy C, Hype or Zinc to name a few. Also he and his friend MC Temper represent Bremen for the German Drum and Bass “Bundesleague” from 2004, when it all started, till 2007. After they became vice champions three times in a row they decided not to take part anymore as it seemed impossible to win the crown due to several reasons which had nothing to do with their unique performances.
Ar the end of 2005 he moved back to Bremen. He sold all the record shops (you know how it is with record sales these days :)) and started to run his own club called Ting!-Club. Kings of the Jungle, now solely run by Dirk, is still Germanys (and Switzerlands!) hottest and biggest and there is plans to bring this concept to more European territories. Also, he now is a regular writer for the first German Drum and Bass Magazine Headliner Mag. He also put more focus on foreign gigs and had the chance to play at Londons legendary Fabric club alongside Adam F, Grooverider, Fresh and many more as well as he travelled to Moscow, The Netherlands and Switzerland. In summer 2009 he closed the club and moved to Berne, Switzerlands capital, and is now working on new plans for Kings of the Jungle as well as on his DJ career.
Musically Dirk is hard to describe as he plays what he and the crowd likes. Being not a DJ for DJs but a crowdhyping type of Artist the slogan “No fillers-just killers” fits best to imagine what you can expect when Dirk is rinsing. Put him in a club or on a big stage of a rave, it can..t go wrong. Catch the vibe when he is at a place close to you, you won..t regret it.
