Dirk was born in Germany, where he studied dance and received his Masters degree in Musical Theatre at the renowned Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.
Prior to coming to New York in 1998 to pursue vocal studies at the Manhattan School of Music, City College of New York and Brooklyn College (where he received his Masters of Music degree), he performed with the dance company of Claudia Lichtblau, gave concerts throughout Europe and appeared in productions like Company, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, and many others.
Dirk was selected to participate in master classes with Walter Berry and Cord Garben and won second prize at the Lotte Lenya Competition for Singers in 1999, appeared in the 'Kurt Weill' Wall to Wall Marathon at Symphony Space.
As a soloist, he has performed the classical as well as the popular repertoire at the German Consulate, City College, the German Society in Philadelphia, New York Graduate Center, the Neue Galerie and in many cities throughout Germany.
Twice he starred as Macheath in Brecht/Weill's The Three Penny Opera - at Manhattan School of Music and at Gershwin Theatre in Brooklyn, and has appeared in Weill's 'Johnny Johnson' at the New York Public Library. Dirk has sung leading operatic roles in Le Nozze di Figaro (Count), The Merry Widow (Danilo), La Bohème (Schaunard), and Die Zauberflöte (Papageno).
As an actor, he recently played in Place Setting at Center Stage, On the Banks of the Surreal at Bank Street Theatre, and sang Dutch Schultz in The True Last Words of Dutch Schultz by Eric Salzman at Symphony Space's Thalia Theatre and performed his one man show 'The Waiter'at the London Fringe Festival.
An active and versatile performer. he sang in the Cabaret Series of the Neue Galerie in New York and was a founding member of the Kabarett Kollektif.
Dirk is a founding member of thedramaloft inc., an entertainment incubator located in New York City, and an avid tap dancer and instructor.
