Bio
Roll up your swag. Dust off your denim. Burn your banjos and start a rock and roll band. That’s what Dirt Farmer have done. Hailing from Albury-Wodonga, the four-piece band have relocated to Melbourne and are preparing to record their yet to be titled debut EP. Formed in April 2010, brothers Stuart and Thomas Barlow, with friends Chris Wright and Patch Oram, met in high school and united over musical tastes. Combining gritty yet crispy guitars, sharp drum grooves, smooth bass lines complemented with hand claps and harmonies, Dirt Farmer have been described as “The Velvet Underground on less smack and more sunshine”, with hints of The Rolling Stones, The Band, and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Despite being ankle-biters in their career, Dirt Farmer have impressed listeners with demos “Genie” and “Bring me Down”, with both tracks entering the Top 100 on the Triple J Unearthed Charts. .... About The Farm:
Real Young is the follow up single to Johnny Marble (which was featured on FBi’s New Music playist, SYN’s Sweet 16, RRR’s Class of 2011 and triple j’s Unearthed Podcast) from their forthcoming EP; recorded and mixed with Leadbetter Productions (Sarah Blasko, Whitley) and mastered by Exchange Mastering UK.
With re-verb oozing from the lead guitar and harmonies alike, “Real Young,” is offset perfectly by its slow burning riffs and rhythm section, dreamy lead vocals with some vintage harmonica for good measure.
Stu Barlow (Lead vocals/guitar) toured with Lisa Mitchell for some time both nationally and internationally at festivals such as Falls and Big Day Out. Nic Dupleix (Guitar/slide guitar) and Pat Oram (Guitar/ harmonica) have combined brilliantly in a lead/rhythm guitar swap which weaves naturally on top of a rhythm section that, laid down by Chris Wright (Bass/ vocals) and Tom Barlow (Drums),bounces, grooves and soothes.
The past six months has also seen Dirt Farmer share the stage with the likes of Husky, Caitlin Park, The Fearless Vampire Killers, Alpine, Tessa & The Type Cast and Hayley Couper.
With all this under their belt and an ever-increasing fan base in both Melbourne and Sydney, Dirt Farmer are definitely a band to keep an eye on.
