Four years ago, Dirty Star was concocted in deepest, darkest Birmingham by brothers RL and Star. The electronic duo are bursting with an energy which has led Star to be branded "The Black Mick Jagger", although Gary Numan has had a huge influence on their sound. Their five-track EP is out now.
Brothers RL and Star have been bubbling under for some time now. The Midlands duo make some of the more interesting music around today, and this their third EP, continues to push those sounds forward. ‘L.P.D.I.A’ from ‘The Mad Raven - (in Monostereo)’ EP, is another highlight from the soon to be superstar siblings. With cuts that take on ROCK, BOOGIE, SOUL, FUNK, and 80s POP on the twelve, ‘LIKE PLAYING DRUMS IN AFRICA’ has a little bit of all these ingredients. Star’s Vocals are reminiscent of Jack Splash (Plantlife) with a hint of Green Garside (scitti Polliti), and RL’s arrangement is a simple but highly effective off-beat drum blended with minimal electronics and keys that work brilliantly. Search this one out!!

On Dirty Star's MySpace site they list the likes of Prince, Cody ChesnuTT and Outkast as influences and current favourite music makers, and the sounds this trio of artists make certainly shine through on this five track EP. The twelve opens with the nu-jazzual "Like Playing Drums In Africa" before moving onto the lo-fi "I Didn't Come 2 Save U". On the flip they serve up the Cody-ish "London Town", ace dirty cinematic jazz-funk cut "Disco Godfather (In Widescreen)" and lastly the Prince / N*E*R*D style "Fresh Outta Skool".

Singer songwriter Star and musician RL are brothers from the Midlands who have been quietly crafting their antidote to the UK’s current urban-pop nightmare. Dirty Star is often compared to Prince, Outkast and NERD and surprisingly Mick Jagger. After releasing their debut record Dirty Star E.P in 2003 a year later they released Dirty Star’s Illphonic (2004) both E.P’s were well received and critically acclaimed. Another Episode was used for The Bertallosophie ffwd vol.4 compilation album released nationwide in Italy by V2 records July/August 2005. The Mad Raven - in monostereo (2006) was released By Damon Albarn’s label Honest Jons in Japan, USA and Europe. Dirty Star have been supported worldwide by Scanner fm (Spain), Radio-Deejay (Italy), 1xtra (UK), Kiss 100 (UK), Galaxy fm (UK), Juice fm (UK), Kusf fm (San Francisco), Samurai fm (Japan) etc… New single 'Gangster Boogie' Features UK Grimes brightest star FUMIN.
