Jeremiah Williams, from Mexico, was adopted into a family living in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1983. He grew up with a passion for the Arts and an interest in Fashion. Jeremiah went to college for Retail Merchandising and Management, but soon dropped out to follow his passion of the artistic design of clothing. In 2007, Jeremiah made the decision to move from the suburbs of Indianapolis to the center of the Arts District of Indianapolis. Jeremiah was drawn to the changing artistic scene of the urban landscape of Indianapolis, and he hoped that being immersed into the environment would help form his own label named dirtystreetsex. Jeremiah wanted to create functional clothing for men that had a different vibe from the current options of urban inspired clothing. dirtystreetsex was Jeremiah’s avenue to create a men’s collection that was a remix of street art found in the allies of the city, the vibe of free form creativity, and the independent music scene of Indianapolis. Jeremiah says: "When I wake up in the morning, I can look out my window and see a power station and a view of the city skyline. The only other building on my street is that of an abandoned one, and I pass that everyday as I cross the street to my bus stop. The abandoned building is covered with old graffiti and boards to keep the trespassers out. On my five minute ride into the city, I pass theaters and art galleries, I see sculptures and more graffiti, and get to hear and see the lifestyles of those riding the bus with me. With all the influences and inspiration that I hear and see everyday, it is hard not to create something from it all. It is Jeremiah’s vision that dirtystreetsex attracts and taps into the growing segment of the new faces moving into the city and the ones already established here. dirtystreetsex is not just about the sexiness of people who choose to wear it, but the attitude those people have that attracts others to them. dirtystreetsex is about evoking and encouraging sexiness in attitude without showing huge chunks of skin. Jeremiah says, “…a little bit of a sexual undertone is not necessarily a bad thing though. December of 2007, Jeremiah decided to take his first leap of faith into his vision by accepting an invitation to participate in a fashion show that the Indianapolis Museum of Art was organizing. Jeremiah’s dramatic and dynamic personality encouraged him to show three artistic versions from his upcoming men’s collection, slated for fall 2008. Jeremiah hopes that the opportunity offered by the IMA to showcase three of his best forms of artistic expression for men’s clothing will help him make the contacts and peak the interest necessary to launch his first small collections of men’s clothing. Jeremiah says: “The three pieces I am doing for the IMA show is not only the expression of art and materials found in the urban landscape, but also draws attention to the sexiness found in the fusion of Plastics, light, metals, and street art. I just want to encourage the expression of music and lifestyle through the fashion of the streets."
