Racoon : Little Shapes
Label: Disasters by Choice
Date of release: 10/10/2009
Support: hardbound CD with colour pullout
Catalogue number: CDNUY018
“Little Shapes” that appear from the end of a barely-lit room;
strange musical instruments and percussions coming from distant lands,
threads of sound captured by digital sound card, field recordings,
synthesized soundscapes. This is the world Racoon belongs to.
Indeed there does exist a world made of sounds,
that is as little life fragments fading away from the instant they appear and then turning into sensations as they crumble; recognisable in a past time still familiar to everyone.
Raccon’s aim is not experimentation of new sound forms, rather it is the search for an intimate dimension that is otherwise imperceptible. Through these “little shapes”, Racoon reveals what is invisible to the eye. “Little Shapes” is like a promise that everyone is welcome in this little world.
“Litttle Shapes” is Racoon’s debut album. Disasters By Choice
Bio
Racoon is a medium-sized mammals native to Rome. As a result of
escapes and deliberate introductions in the beginning of the 21st
century, racoon is now also distributed in Oakland, San Francisco and,
more generally the Bay Area. Its original habitat is the quiet,
"icelandic like" pop music, but due to his adaptability he has
extended his range to a lot of different other genera that he keeps
calling pop because of an innate laziness and incapacity in
classifying music.

Obsil : Distances
Label: Disasters by Choice
Date of release: 10/10/2009
Support: hardbound CD with colour pullout
Catalogue number: CDNUY019
Distances between places, times, different beings collide and become fragments in each of the 13 tracks of the second Obsil’ album.
These compositions are characterized by a visionary and evocative mood originated by melodic grains, sometimes deranged, that stand out on an ethereal soundscape generated by a fusion between original and complexes synthetic sounds, instruments from the symphonic orchestra, and a myriad of field recordings. The sounds flow quickly and fade away in the air, breaking melodies that they suddenly recreate.
Distances is the yield of a constant quotidian work of musical research and sonic experimentation, a sort of sound-diary where the peculiarity of the environment in which the album was composed breaks into every track: in fact, every field recordings present in the album was taken in Val di Merse (Siena, Tuscany), the place where Giulio Aldinucci was born and lives
Bio
Obsil was born in Siena in 1981. He began learning music when he was a child and, from the mid-1990’s, his musical interests started to focus mainly on electronic music. In 2005 he graduated in Linguist and Cultural Mediation with a graduation thesis on Luigi Russolo. Now he lives in a small village in the Senese countryside, where it’s also based the studio where he usually compose music. His personal “experimental” approach to the music led him to use a multitude of instruments: from the early digital synthesizers of the ’80, or the more complex digital-analog “hybrid” instruments, to the modern programming tools such as Max/Msp. By this musical research, that interests always different synthesis methods and the use of own recorded material, he also writes music for traditional instrument..

Sparkle in Grey : A Quiet Place

Sparkle in Grey have been playing together since 2006, when founder member Matteo “Hue” Uggeri (who also has a solo electronic music project by the same name) was joined by poli-instrumentalist Cristiano Lupo (member of Norm), Alberto Carozzi (former member of Yakudoshi) – guitar and bass - and violin player Franz Krostopovic (of Pulp-ito).
This album (A Quiet Place) is the corner-stone of a collaboration between people who don't necessarily share similar music tastes, but who share a similar taste for human relations. The music in this record evokes a heartening place to visit and to cherish.
Sparkle in Grey do not sing, do not dance in public, do not have lyrics to hang up on teenage bedroom walls. This could be due to their passion for Kaurismaki's cigarettes, for Robert Smith's hair-style, for certain sounds in so-called experimental records that may well result from mixing mess-ups, for Piano Magic's totemic stage presence; but as much as they might not appeal to 15 – year olds they are, after all, the over-grown, boy-band version of Tuxedomoon.
A Quiet Place
Sparkle in Grey have recorded “A Quiet Place” in 2006 with Giuseppe Ielasi (well known for his records on Hapna and 12k in the experimental and micro-sounds scene), while collaborating with Telepherique and Maurizio Bianchi and remixing for Micecars and Ether.
The six tracks on this debut album have started off as improvisations on an electronic base, and have later developed throughout live shows in Italy and abroad in squats, clubs, diners, music festivals in the woods and in a kindergarden.

"blending low-level hip-hop beats with Scorn-esque bass and elonated guitar riffs to remarkable effect. . . it's that awesome. . . the music is superb, the artwork and packaging equally good. . . [it's] warped shuffling genius. 300% necro, foo'! (5/5)" (Zero Tolerance magazine).
