Dis is founded in early 2000 by brothers Ben (violin, vocals) and Daniël Mathot (guitar). After a year of collaborating with several musicians the perfect drummer is found in Remco Menting in March 2001. His bass-playing brother Roel joins in September that year but decides to leave in October 2003. Tim Numan takes his place in 2004.
Dis' music can be described as progressive, symphonic metal with a characteristic violin sound. Originality, creativity and virtuosity are important factors and the band members are not afraid to try out new things. Because of a broad musical interest in the group, Dis often experiments with elements from different styles of music.
Dis has released 2 EPs, from which the last (“Forces of Greed”) has gotten many excellent reviews in Dutch magazines as Aardschok, Music Maker and Fret and also on various web-zines. Dis has played over 60 shows in Dutch venues like Tivoli and Ekko and on several festivals.
With the last EP being almost 2 years old, Dis decides to start recording again in the summer of 2004. December 2004 finally sees the launch of their first full-length album: “Escape to Reality”. With this self-released album Dis hopes to find a fitting record label. Again the reviews are unanimously positive: "original and refreshing" (Aardschok), "simply stunning" (Lords of Metal), "a very strong addition to the Dutch metal scene" (Zware Metalen).
