Discard Avant Garb 2008 was a huge success! Thank you to our loyal fans, to the artists, to our fabulous sponsors, and to our house for two years, Capital Repertory Theatre! The organizers wish to express our gratitude to all who continue to make Discard Avant Garb one of the high points of the Capital Region's fashion scene. We look forward to 2009.
Discard Avant Garb invites artists to create costumes using recycled and/or non-traditional materials. The pieces are then presented in a fashion show format. All proceeds from the Recycled Fashion Show event go to charity. Having raised close to $20,000.00 in the past for charity, this year's event raised approximately $6,500.00 for our worthy causes: Albany Center Galleries and The Chris Ryan Scholarship Fund at Albany High School. In 2009 we add to the recipient list - in addition to the aforementioned - The Tom Nattell Memorial Scholarship for Poetry and the Grand Street Community Arts Center, our hosts for 2009.

Ben Karis-Nix and band will be playing two shows in their native Albany. Now dubbed the 'Lightning Strikes Twice' tour, these dates are in support of two excellent respective causes: Fire relief and Rock. *New show details appear below*
1/18 - Tonight: Valentine's Music Hall (17 New Scotland Ave., Albany, New York 12207) featuring The Spike Emerson Society, BKN, and 28N closing the night (www.myspace.com/28n). The aim of this show is the more ignoble of the two; the melting of the face and forcible sock ejection.
1/20 - Sunday: Tess's Lark Tavern (453 Madison Ave., Albany, NY 12210) This event is a benefit for Eric and Karen Buckley (www.myspace.com/buckleybenefits) who lost all of their worldly possessions in a recent house fire.
