The Discordian Society, is an eclectic combination of funk, jazz and rock, with influences that range from Zappa and John Xorn, to Jaco Pastorius and Les Claypool. Formed in Oct 2001 by bassist/composer Davz "Not" Heare,The Discordian Society has awed crowds across the country and has performed with numerous artists including Larry Keel, Yonrico Scott, Ozric Tentacles, Col. Bruce Hampton, The Mantras and Ani Difranco.
The Discordian Society's ability to take crowds on a musical roller coaster is talked about among followers of all genres. Taking the elements of their influences to the extreme, The Discordian Society will play a hardcore style intro and with a stop, fall into the smoothest of jazz runs easily teasing into a hard driven funk rhythm. Always aiming for the epic and with space for everybody to groove, The Discordian Society will trade licks with each other, fall into a waltz or the strangest rock opera you have ever heard. Before you know it 10 minutes have passed and you have heard 7 different styles of music played in only 1 or 2 songs.
In 2006 The Discordian Society produced it's first album, "Rise of the Molecule", 73 mins of music, which to date has sold over 6000 copies.
The band is currently working on it's 2nd full length "Primordial Soup", with a tentative release date set in early 2010

Hi! I remember seeing you guys way back when in Roanoke a few times I think at the Greene Dolphin. I defintely saw you at a field party thrown by a dude named Reagan in Fincastle VA back in 02'. Anyways I really enjoy your music and I was wondering if you ever come down to Charleston, SC to play. I'd love to see you guys again :)
Way cool. Can't quite peg that genre. Prog Fusion Funk? Maybe you should called it funktion. ;>) Anyway, I always dig finding bands that are actually stretching out to do something original. Thanks for finding me!
