"DISGOD arrives on the scene with a debut full of aggressive, energetic death metal, well versed in old school sentiment, yet unrelenting, fast and snappy enough that a more modern audience might find something to appreciate with it. There are a dozen tracks on the album, many hovering around the 2 minute mark. The band is a three-piece, with SP handling the guitars and vocals. He's got a very blunt delivery which reminds me of a lot of thrash and crossover, in particular early Prong. The thrash influence also appears heavily throughout the compositions, you can hear that proto-death metal influence of bands like Possessed as well as the grinding death of Napalm Death. It all adds up to excitement, for a great number of the tracks here will you have smashing your head against the nearest solid object or structure. "Undercover Enslavement", "Stabbing With a Nail", "Mirror of Mors", "To Shoot to Be" and "Sharp" are all total death thrashing slugfests which race past you in a flurry of blows. There is nary a weaker track on the entire album, even if none of them are outstanding. The production is punchy and punctual for these brief bursts of chaos. The bass thuds and races below the twisting, spitting guitar licks and the constant shuffle of the drums. The band is by no means 'messy', but if you like your death metal with a dose of crossover splatter influence, Disgod are a band that should please you." Verdict: Win [7 / 10]
The band has been active since 2003 and it has a very high reputation
in the homeland. The band's line-up comprises musicians known for
participation in leading Belarusian metal-acts, such as Medievil,
Ion Disruption (ex-Warkraft), Barracuda, Mental Extermination
(ex-Psychopathic Noise).
The demo "Contaminated Surgery" released in 2005 received excellent
responses in underground media and that at once has allowed the band
to receive an offer for the release of its debut album from cult
Belarusian label Possession Productions. In 2007 the full-length album
"Sanguine Scales" was recorded and in the end of 2008 Possession
Productions released this CD.
In the beginning of 2009 "Sanguine Scales" got the 4th place in nomination for "The Best Belarusian Full-Length Metal Album of 2008" by Metalfront Music Awards 2008 which was held by the most popular and visited metal - gothic - industrial web-portal in Belarus - Metalfront.org.
The band is active in terms of live-shows. Belarusian gigs earned the band the status of the excellent live-act. It is worth mentioning that DISGOD live-show is notable for bright barbarous power. When performing live the potential of band's music manifests itself even more than on the album and that is repeatedly noted by different gig reviews. Performing as a trio - using minimal possible line-up - the band delivers the drive and power which will easily outdo other bands with much greater number of musicians.
The concept of the band is based on classical death - thrash metal-basis from the end of 80-ies and the beginning of 90-ies that is passed
through the prism of today's up-to-dateness and modernity. DISGOD
recreates metal spirit of the times that once were but at the same
time doesn't undertake the task to follow the paths that had been
already passed by others, and creates something original and modern on
the basis of tradition.
Right now the band is working on the expansion of geography of its live activity. For the fall of 2009 the tour across Poland is already
planned, and the band is also in the process of negotiations with promoters
from other EU-countries. If you are a promoter, feel free to contact the band's tour manager.
