“Detroit’s THE BILL BONDSMEN are a beer soaked, blue-collar rhino charge, smart enough to know what a tight band should sound like, and wise enough not to give a shit if folks don’t get it. "Take Me off Your List' is the obvious sparkling gem on this brief demo, greeting you like a free pitcher of PBR at the bowling alley. The style is 80s HC-based, but not 80s bound. The shout-along choruses and exceedingly crisp drums made this one an all-around improvement from their last demo.... “Human Veal” closes it up like a close encounter with a kick boxer – speedy, ragged, and tough. In the final analysis, those signature tempo fluctuations (or should I say flatulations?) spell out that peachy keen BONDSMEN sound. “The Swinging Sounds…” wins with simultaneous props for bringing back the style of American classics bands like APARTMENT 3G, while adding some sparkles of fresh anthem-craft that sparkles like stripper glitter and bottle caps on the scummy cement floor." - Peacedogman
Cheeraks/Normals "Rock N Roll Protocol Is A Big Baboom" 10" (Yakisakana) $10.00 French Import
Now this is something to get EXCITED about. A total winner here that plays good all the way through. Just a super-solid release that is maybe the best thing Deadbeat has ever put out!! The DC Snipers from NYC bring something different to the table with each of the 11 tracks on this album; and it’s hard to do that and actually end up with a record that’s good! But the Snipers have proven it’s not impossible. This album is not only good it's great!! Taking cues from other musical pioneers like the Screamers, Gang of Four, Urinals and the Electric Eels; the DC Snipers forge into their own fragmented, audience-less sector and begin to build a following based on songs that are undeniably catchy without sticking to a musical ‘script’. The most difficult part of being in a proto/art punk/whatever band like this: is to do something completely inovative and different, yet still leaving the listener with something loosely ill defined to grasp onto and the DC Snipers completely nail that. RECOMMENDED.
Melodic Southern California hardcore band release an all new 14 song CD which also includes two videos of drunk punk lunacy. These guys have been at it for awhile now and show no signs of slowing down. Members have also played in such noteworthy bands as UK Subs, Badtown Boys, and Foreign Object. For fans of Snuff, Leatherface, etc...
The debut 7" ep from Bakersfield, CA's own HIPS. Four tracks of great 60's influenced garage punk, limited 1 time pressing of only 600 copies. Cool release and hard to find.
Live Fast Die "Guitar Star" 7" (Your Permanent) $4.00
The Monitors are Ryan & Mechadrum (ex-Kill-A-Watts) & Wendy (ex-Jane Doe & The Cop Haters, & Kryptonite Records). This single is limited to 500 copies. Four amazing songs by these future punx from Wisconsin. Fans of the Kill-A-Watts won't be disappointed, but don't expect a repeat, the Monitors are here and now with a different sound. Imagine Mad Max meets the Screamers as this punk battle rages on minus a guitar, this trio will blow out your speakers with only drums, bass, and an old wurlitzer piano. Expect to hear a lot more from these guys, they already have two more singles coming out on others labels. Great debut!!
"To say that I believe that this is one of the best punk records ever to be recorded is not over stepping the mark. Any band that can inject the sharp poke-in-the-eye brashness of WIRE, the driving melody-with-a-twist of THE ADVERTS, the heavy atmosphere of THE FITS, (to lesser extent) THE FALSE PROPHETS, and even some of the brooding twang of THE WIPERS, while still sounding original deserves every friggen accolade you can throw at them. If you went completely gaga over NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS, then this will tickle you absolutely silly. Album of the year. Unless a certain band from Denmark make the deadline, I can't see anything knocking this off. I send my love to Portland for yet another punk rock treasure." Maximumrocknroll #258
Seven new studio tracks on the A side continueing in the proven Regulations style of going back to the roots of hardcore punk, circa 1980. Catchy, snotty, raw, hardcore punk that would fit right in on Dangerhouse records or the Boston Not L.A. compilation. B side features both 7's (now out of print) as bonus tracks!
The debut full-length from Shark Soup, out of Erlangan, Germany combines Clash-esque punk rock with the neo-rockabilly sound that comes complete with standup bass. A relentless attack of soul burning swill that follows up their self-titled 7-track mini-album that came out on Knockout Records.
Here are three more great tunes from the Shop Fronts out of Brooklyn NY. Killer straight on punk rock that fans of Rip Off Records style bands will drool over. Band members include ex Zodiac Killers, ex F-Hole, ex Primate 5, and ex Tie Reds. You'd do yourself well to check out their other ep's as well on Rapid Pulse and Your Permanent Records.
“Three words come to mind when describing Chicago’s own STREET BRATS new album: explosive, Explosive, EXPLOSIVE!!! This is the album the punk rock world needs to hear, the album that defies any punk rock genre, the album that makes you want to sing and dance in front of the mirror to. This is the album you get ready for your big date to, the album that should be the soundtrack to the movie you take your date too, and the album you take your date home and fuck to. Are we getting the point across yet? Reviewers couldn’t put the STREET BRATS last 7” into any specific punk category, and damn did they try, and damn will they have a harder time with this one. SLAUGHTER AND THE DOGS, THE BOYS, SOCIAL DISTORTION, STIFF LITTLE FINGERS, whatever! Power pop, pop punk, glam, street punk -- we’ll just say punk rock!” - Angry Young And Poor
TSF's sound mashes equal parts early 80's hardcore, NY noise, and damaged garage rock with a heavy dose of aural terrorism. Gorilla-style drumming, lead guitars from space, bass played like lead guitars and a jackass with a megaphone and a David Yow complex. Beginning as a birthday party fuck-off, Tractor Sex Fatality has worked its way into being the premiere shit-stain on the Seattle music scene. Fed up with the pop punky styling and sensitive indie rock around town, front man Rob Fletcher set out to start a band of ferocious intensity, hell bent on damaging the ears and destroying the minds and morals of anyone willing to watch. Over the top, full blown madness.
