Dissembler: noun. 1: The petrographic classification of zymurgistic zeit-gizmos that lack a supportive nevus of delegated constituent appellations. 2: a college-level musical performance group consisting of 5 diverse discontinuous members, brought together with no real unifying theme beyond the desire to "express something genuine and undiluted."
The music played by Dissembler is tough to pin down without resorting to tired adjectives loaded with trite connotations. From the electric guitar, bass, and drums, a bastardized metal/punk/funk energy thunders with apoplectic delicacy; the acoustic guitar contributes a mix of subtle folkishness and fiery flamenco-tinged rage; the fiddle permeates the mix with constant serpentine melodic counterpoint; and the two vocalists seem locked in an almost matrimonial struggle for control over the roiling instrumental barrage. Live shows are a sight to behold: every member of the band writhing in orgiastic musical abandon, twisting and shaking and pusling with passion, yet never losing their grip on the music.
