The DistilleryWorks Recordings started as just an idea of what independent music should be by a group of friends. Each had their own experiences and take on what music was to them, yet each agreed that without music life would not be whole. Over the years, disillusion and disenchantment conspired to deter their commitment to, not only be inspired by music, but to be an active participant in its creation. Two out of the group still had the passion and the desire to continue. The only option was to lay the groundwork for what they have envisioned for so long. Thus, DistilleryWorks Recordings was formed.
The name DistilleryWorks has two meanings. Since the company is based in the south, it was important to them to use a name that represented what they were trying to accomplish. Those who are familiar with the history of the south know that the poor had it particularly tough. One of the many ways poor southern folk made money was through making and selling liquor illegally, most commonly known as bootlegging or moon shining. Since liquor was and still is generally made in a distillery, whether a small home based location or large building, thus the name. So, for us DistilleryWorks.
We are committed to the spirit of the independent artist and entrepreneur. We not only promote, but we encourage a self sufficient mantra for all...........
