Ahoy!
Okay folks, time for some news from everybody's favourite po-faced microlabel (i.e. us).
First up is that Necro Deathmort CD This Beat Is Necrotronic (DIST19). Not only does the title kick ass, so does the music and the artwork. Described as an "album that every death metal idiot was too clunky, too loud and too lumpen to make, this is the album that Nick Cave should play at home" by the good good people at Unpeeled, this release unleashes it's yelping weeping clods of meat like a bastard. It's available to order NOW through the Distraction shoppe, and worldwide via your lovely indie record shop (via Cargo and p*dis) on August 31st. The Sound projector has a photo of the album artwork so you can see for yourself just how shitkicking it really is. There's streamed music from the album up on our extremely corporate last.fm page, but stay tuned for the requisite mp3 downloads in a few weeks time.
After that, October finally sees the release of Tempelhof's Leaving Home / Cage (DIST15) 12" vinyl, and, in November, their album We Were Not There For The Beginning. We Won't Be There For The End. (DIST16). We waxed lyrical over these in our last mailout, but for the unclued, their stuff is mournful, sparse, introspective and dynamic, and these releases demonstrate what these guys do best: emotional, subtle passionate music without so much of the po-faced navel gazing. In a perfect world, you'll be hearing a lot more of these guys, rather than another humdrum Sigur Ros outing or another plateful of piss of the type that Jason Pierce cronks out these days. Seriously, these are awesome.
Speaking of the vinyl, each one of the 250 vinyls has been painstakingly hand-painted by Polly Bound over a period of 18 months, forming a monochrome painting of rural North-East countryside. The entire work will be on display - yes, all 25 feet by 10 feet of it - as part of the Invitation art exhibition taking place at Hanger 51 on Lime Street (opposite the Cluny), in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, from 18th July to 24th July, with the launch night taking place on the opening night from 6pm to 8pm. See you there?
After those little doozies, February sees the national release of the Mushi Mushi album Sequins Save Lives (DIST18), and March the release of d_rradio's Parts (DIST17). More news on them soon!
Speaking of d_rradio, we now have copies in stock of their 2xCD set on Symbolic Interaction Leaves, and what a beautiful listen it is. It only costs £7.99 post-paid from us, we only have about twenty copies, and when they're gone, they're gone!
Just to briefly mention some worthy gigs featuring Distraction Records folk (in particular NARC Fest in the Ouseburn area of Newcastle is quite well-represented by us) in the next few weeks:
24th July: LONDON, The Unicorn: Necro Deathmort w/ Ivy's Itch + others. FREE 18th July: NEWCASTLE, Cluny: Distraction Sound System providing the tunes between The Twilight Sad, Piney Gir & The Age Of Reason, Soundtracks For A B-Movie, Frankie & The Heartstrings, and Fuzzy Lights. See website for ticket details.
Finally a request. If you're going to send us a demo through the mail (or, as I suspect as happened, went through the Unsigned Guide sending CDRs to any and every record label in there without bothering to at least look at the website to see what they're about), at least ensure that you putting enough postage on the envelope, rather than just a second class stamp. That way, its a little easier to put up with listening to your gash little ska band, without paying the post office £1.17 for the privilege. The Amnesiacs from Liverpool, you truly suck.
Easy now, distraction.x.
