About me:

Welcome to The District Club myspace.
We are a medium sized venue located in the South Wales Valley town of Pontypridd and have been in existence for nearly 15 years. Our aim over the years has been to bring our punters the best in quality entertainment , in a relaxed and friendly enviroment at affordable prices.
We run the operation not to make a profit but out of a love of live music and we have earned a reputation as one of the best venues in South Wales for local ,national and international acts to perform at.
Although not a restriction, we tend to attract audiences in the 35 + age group who appreciate the relaxed ethos of the club and enjoy the opportunity to let their hair down on a Friday night, enjoy a few affordable drinks and socialise with like-minded people.
Why not pay us a visit and support live music.

BANDS INTERESTED IN PLAYING THE DISTRICT... please read:

We've very much become victims of our own success. We receive an average about 30 contacts a week from bands hoping to get a gig at the club as well as requests for rebookings from people who have already performed here.

Friday nights also involve getting nagged by our regular punters to rebook bands that have gone down well in the past and also having to placate personal friends who are in bands that want to play the club.

We don't mean to appear direspectful or arrogant in our dealings with anyone wanting a gig with us, we simply can't fit everyone into the 50-odd dates a year that are available. Combine that with the fact that we as organisers have to combine District duties with demanding full-time jobs (and other musical projects), we can't always get around to replying to everyone that gets in touch.

Interests

  • General

    It goes without saying that family and friends come top of the list. Co-organising events at The District. Playing bass guitar with The Lunatic Fringe & The Troubleshooters. Rugby - confined to spectating nowadays. Reading. Walking the mountains with my dog. Cinema, Arts, politics and the Internet. Travel - despite my debilatating fear of flying.
    ...and trying to curb my enthusiasm for drinking, eating and smoking to excess.

  • Music

    Very little modern mainstream music floats my boat although I still like to get out to as many gigs as possible. There are very few genres of music that I don't enjoy listening to from time to time.

  • Movies

    I'll watch anything that's not too lightweight. I particularly enjoy the work of the original Ealing Studios, Copolla, David Lean, Pressburger, Kubrick to name a few.

  • Television

    Don't watch a lot of television apart from the BBC News and Newsnight. Getting the remote off the kids is virtually impossible anyway.

  • Books

    Far too many to list, I get through at least one book a week.

  • Heroes

    After a triumphant set at last years event, Welsh Glamsters Tigertailz return to the Hard Rock Hell stage. DEC 4TH TO 6TH PRESTATYN NORTH WALES

    This unheard of back-to-back appearance is said to be a result of fan power, with the HRH forum being flooded with good things about their performance in 2008.
    Tailz join American rockers New York Dolls and W.A.S.P as well as adding to the strong UK Hard Rock presence which already includes The Quireboys and Terrorvision.
