Pour yourself a cocktail, put on your dancin' shoes, and have a great night with your favorite vocalists!
My favorite vocalists include Bobby Darin (you'll always hear two of his songs in a row on Divaville -- one just isn't enough!), Wayne Newton (please don't give me grief about this), and Betty Hutton, who has the honor each week of providing the last song of the night. She's also the one pictured up there, with the bananas. She is bananas. You'll want to stay tuned until 9am each Wednesday night, jut to hear her in all of her kookiness.
To find out more about the program, you can visit the Divaville website.
Here's a spectacular clip from the film "Stormy Weather". Cab Calloway and his band provide the music, and the Nicholas Brothers and their double-jointed hips provide some jaw-dropping tap-dancing.
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
