About Divining Rods

The Divining Rods are the band Chris Newman envisioned while serving time in 2005. During work release he worked with the boys on week ends after 6 months and played their first show at Dantes in Portland, October 11, 05. They disbanded in February 2008 after recording two albums: Love Letter to the Dead and Key of H. Newman's latest effort is called Lost Acolytes and they often cover Divining Rods songs in their set. The music lives on through recordings and the internet.

Chris Newman's lyrics are often real life stories, told with conviction. There are so many bands out there, but so few have "IT",the factor that separates the good from the great. Divining Rods were always great in some way, every time they performed or recorded. Never predictable, yet traditional in many ways. Their ability to improvise on a moment was sometimes astonishing. It can't be contrived, it must be felt, and be projected to the listener. They were vessels open to be filled with the Divine inspiration only the true seeker recognizes without thought, it just is. ~
