Bio
During a weekend away in Warsaw a bunch of old school friends from North London were discussing how stale the music scene had become. The evening ended with a 6am sing along and the following morning DIXIE was born. Two months later legendary UK producer Jon Kelly (Paul McCartney, The Beautiful South) heard a recording and invited the band into the studio. "For me it was instant" said Jon. "A real band playing real songs". Soul-fuelled lyrics, stripped down grooves and classic riffs combine together with a cheeky sexiness and boyish swagger to produce one of the most original sounds in British music today. The influences are obvious, and you get the feeling they're meant to be… The Faces, The Stones, Zep.... "proper bands" as the DIXIE boys would say. It's live however that you see the band for what they really are. The gigs turn into parties and the songs are delivered with energy and emotion, all helped by the fact that DIXIE possess a front man, Adam, who performs every gig as if it's his last. A recent reviewer at a gig in Berlin said that "DIXIE look like a band you don't f@ck with on stage" and the Manchester Evening News called them "boisterous…. with 10-gallon hats turned up to 11." Soon after those initial recordings a chance meeting on a plane saw DIXIE linking up with US producer Robert Shanazarian Jr (the Kooks, the Hillers, Plain White T's) who signed the boys to his label. "Somebody on the flight played a couple of songs to a friend of mine and I got in touch" Robert recalls. The band then flew back and forth to LA where they worked firstly with Robert and then with Ryan Dusick (ex-Maroon 5) on recordings that the band enjoyed, but that they felt didn't quite capture the raw British sound they were looking for. During that whole period DIXIE continued to play the live circuit in the UK, winning over audiences at gigs and festivals and building up a loyal fan base. They are about to set off on a 32 date UK tour supporting Shaun Ryder after he personally asked them to join him. "It's an honour" said guitarist Noel, "he's really the last true rock n' roller". The band's debut single 'What You Gonna Do' is set for release during the tour, followed closely by an album that was recorded start to finish in 11 days in Byron Bay, Australia, after the band finally settled on producer Tom Misner. "Tom said he'd get the perfect sound on the other side of the world" says drummer Ali, "and he was right." "And it was all recorded the old fashioned way, live to tape, just how we wanted it" adds Adam. "11 songs in eleven days!" DIXIE's debut album 'Sometimes All You've Got Left Is Your Style' is set for release in early 2012. -

During a late-night drinking session on a weekend away in Warsaw, four old-school friends had a conversation about how stale the music scene was and finished with a 6am sing-along. That morning they formed DIXIE. Two months later the band were discovered by legendary UK producer Jon Kelly (Paul McCartney, The Damned, Beautiful South).
The fact that the band are such close friends is evident in the way they play and DIXIE wouldn't have it any other way. Energy and personality comes across in their performances and the music has something of a tongue-in-cheek sexiness to it.
There're soul-fuelled lyrics, stripped down grooves and classic riffs. It's obvious the band are trying to bring back rock 'n' roll - the fast tracks have a real party feel, the slower numbers, a certain swagger, and every song has a melody that people seem to instantly connect with. Live you see the band for what they really are. The gigs are parties and it's live that the emotion of the songs comes into its own - of course, it helps that DIXIE possess a frontman who performs every gig as if it is his last.
A chance meeting on a plane then saw DIXIE linking up with US producer Robert Shahnazarian Jr (The Killers, The Kooks, Plain White T's) in LA. Since then they've been back and forth across the Atlantic several times laying down an album that properly reflects the power of their performances, working with producer and ex-Maroon 5 drummer Ryan Dusick. These recordings were followed by sessions back in the UK at the famous Sawmills Studios (where Oasis' Definitely Maybe and most Supergrass records came to life!). To be able to record the sound as live as possible the band decided it was time for a 2nd guitarist and have recruited Noel Martin to complete the set-up. DIXIEs next trip is halfway round the world to Byron Bay, Australia, following an invite from Tom Misner of 301 Records and The SAE. 'Tom's told us that with his help and in that studio we can finally get the sort of classic sound we've been looking for... We're really excited' said Adam. Watch this space!!!
