Influenze
My trumpet and flugelhorn influences are MilesDavis, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, Freddie Hubbard, Maynard Ferguson, Chuck Mangione and Clark Terry. I also admire all the great jazz vocalists and particularly the versatility of Chet Baker. As well as the trumpet led bands, I pay tribute to all the great dance bands of the swing and big band era. Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Harry James, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller to name but a few.
Modern dance music was introduced to me by my son Shaun (SoundIllusion) He has influenced me with his own drum 'n' bass compositions to the extent that I have started to collaborate with him on his latest project. My musical horizons have been broadened into the electronic dance genre which Miles Davis left us with.

A fine blend of swing, jazz and cool tunes performed in beautiful harmony by brass and saxes with dance rhythms created by an experienced trio of piano, double bass and drums. The musical arrangements vary from the 'dance band days' through 'cool jazz' and 'latin' to popular vocal standards. The forthcoming CD will say it all.
My name is Dennis Frere-Smith (aka DIZZIEDEN) and I formed my new band, MILES OF SWING as a tribute to all the great dance/swing bands. I've played for many other bands over the years and toured my family band, The Niki Rhys Set, in the eighties. During my musical career I became more interested in jazz and different dance styles which led me to my current project with MILES OF SWING and the experimental and drum 'n' bass collaboration with my son, Shaun Frere-Smith (SoundillusioN)
MILES OF SWING has a very personal style which is demonstrated in live performances. The precision and inventiveness of the music is typical of the highest quality musicians. The imminent recordings will speakvolumes whereas I can only hint towards the satisfaction of the listener or promoter who expects the best.
