From glitchy dance beats to chilled soundscapes, DIZZYGOTHECA's captivating, bittersweet electronica combines enigmatic beautiful vocals, insightful lyrics and artful electronic sounds, drawing comparisons with Portishead, Goldfrapp and The Paradise Motel.
Their live shows are renowned for often startling costuming, creative visual collaborations, enigmatic stage presence and high energy; innovative music lovers are switching on to DIZZYGOTHECA’s unique, textured, beautiful sound, and intelligent and thoughtful lyrics. Their songs explore their own shimmery vision of the world’s dark and light shades, ranging from soft, cinematic soundscapes to pop tinged, glitchy dance beats. They sing of love, truth, madness, hope, nature and machinery, in our complex world. They use hardware not laptops.
In 2008 they received local acclaim with a Q Song award nomination for their track ‘Little Beat’, which also reached 18 in local radio 4ZzZ's Hot 100. They have shared the stage with electronica luminaries such as The Bird, Severed Heads, Tomas Ford, The Hunz, My Ninja Lover, Angelspit, Tycho Brahe, Ponyloaf, Snog, MZO, The Rational Academy and Lawrence English to name just a few, along with playing at innovative festivals like Vibewire, Straight out of Brisbane, Next Level, Pride and 4ZzZ Market Day.
DIZZYGOTHECA's name was inspired by a local drought tolerant plant called a dizygotheca elegantissima.
For music that is beautiful, authentic and creative...please listen.
Our next show is as part of the fantastic 'Spring into Summer' fashion/music/art/dj event at Barsoma on November 8. Barsoma is located at 4/22 Constance Street, Fortitude Valley.

‘Dizzygotheca successfully tread the fine line that divides influence from mere imitation – the six tracks on A Little Closer To The Truth all bring to mind more well known practitioners of this kind of work (the more ethereal tracks of Andrea Parker spring particularly to mind) without ever sounding derivative. Closing track 313 sounds a bit like what you’d imagine Alison Goldfrapp would be doing now if she’d been locked in an abandoned warehouse for four years when she was still making atmospheric soundscapes instead of serving up lukewarm glamrock. It’s rough around the edges with a dirty groove that I’m sure fires up live audiences, the multi-tracked vocals pulling together the many strands that make up this EP into something greater than the sum of its parts. It’s an EP that makes me excited to see how the band develops their sound into an album long project. samesame.com.au
review of ‘A Little Closer to the Truth’
‘Certainly, though, the name is strikingly suitable for Dizzygotheca’s smooth, haunting, darkly tinged and slightly askew sound, especially once the plant’s full nomenclature – dizygotheca elegantissima – is considered. For if there is one word that could be most aptly applied to the six tunes brought together on the group’s new EP, A Little Closer to the Truth, from the pristine, otherworldly opener Sky Over Israel through the pulsing, haunting and infectious 4ZZZ favourite Little Beat and on, finally, to the throbbing dance floor anthem that closes the release, 313, it would most certainly be ‘elegant’.’ Shaun Nancarrow, Rave Magazine about ‘A Little Closer to the Truth’
'A journey of love, hope and evocative electronica bliss' Myjanne Jensen, Scene Magazine regarding 'A Little Closer to the Truth'
‘an enigmatic soundscape of light and dark…a bittersweet ride’. Scene Magazine review of Holding Pattern
‘...nothing short of beautiful' Scout TV review of Holding Pattern
‘A beautiful illusion surrounded by electronic sound…' Bloodline242 (Japan) review of Holding Pattern
‘Dizzygotheca’s haunting, delicate electronica is comparable to both trip-hop and ambient post-industrial. Heidi Millington’s in-tune vocals were refreshing to the ears, harshly contrasted by off-beat distorted drum samples.” Rave Magazine live review
‘Holding Pattern’ is ‘intriguing and unique’ with ‘beautiful emotive vocals…With their no limits approach to delicate situations, Dizzygotheca are edgy and unafraid of trying something different.’ Rave Magazine review of Holding Pattern
