Year 1995, 2pac was alive, so was B.I.G, and a young kid, Mike Bechtel, just outside Harrisburg PA was beginning the 7th grade. He always hung around with older friends, so he heard a lot of music geared for older listeners. He fell in love with the complex lyrics, the vivid storytelling and melodic beats that still hit hard in the speakers. These were the golden years of Boot Camp Click, Wu Tang Clan, Death Row Records, Mobb Deep, Capone N Noreaga, A Tribe Called Quest and so many others. Eventually becoming a hip hop enthusiast and after accumulating a large collection of hip hop tapes and cds. He began making cassette tape mixes for his friends compiled with the newest music. Around 2000, he was given access to his aunt’s cd burner; he began to make mixes on cds. Before long friends of friends were requesting cds and offering to pay for the mixes. The kid didn’t take it seriously he was just having fun listening to music making a few extra dollars in his pocket. In 2002, that young man from Harrisburg, PA, tired of the lack of cohesive and consistent mixtapes from his favorite big name dj’s, began to make his own real mixtapes, under the moniker Crack Gods. Crack Gods’ mixtapes, never caught on outside of his own home town however, DJ 1Mic was born and experience and skill was gained with every tape. In 2005 DJ 1Mic became the official mixtape vehicle, notarized by a mixtape that will live forever, the original 66 track masterpiece, DJ 1Mic Presents Jadakiss: The Long Kiss Goodnight. From there DJ 1Mic built a strong reputation as a mixtape dj. DJ 1Mic hustled tape by tape to find new fans and create long standing relationships with fellow dj’s. DJ 1Mic differs from many dj’s as he doesn’t force songs together into one playlist and make mixes that loose your attention after the first six or seven songs. He has established several series of mixtapes, including the Groupie Love, which has become one of the top brands in r&b/club/hip hop mixtapes. DJ 1Mic also has a southern hip-hop and west coast hip hop series which he has begun to establish throughout the hip hop industry. DJ 1Mic has a deep passion for hip hop music in its every form. In 2006 DJ 1Mic linked up with legendary dj’s Mixx and ReadyCee who hail from New York City, the Bronx to be exact. DJ Mixx has taken DJ 1Mic under his wing to mold his raw skills into talent. By the summer of 2006 DJ 1Mic became a force in the mixtape industry, and by the end of the year, a serious problem. DJ 1Mic dropped 71 mixtapes in 2006, while some dj’s struggled to drop 7 the whole year. “The Mic Check Show” pod cast was also established in 2006, marking a return to greatness for independent listeners of hip hop. Those listeners, thanks to host DJ 1Mic and “The Mic Check Show”, no longer have to sit through hours of the same songs replayed to hear the one song they wanted; now they can hear the song alongside numerous others they are sure to enjoy. In early 2007 DJ 1Mic was drafted into The Mixtape Militia led by DJ DVS-1 most famous with his promotional work with hip hop stars Paul Wall, Joe Budden, Chamillionaire, and fellow Mixtape Militia DJ, Supa DJ 2-Mello. Working side by side with a promotional mind that could push his limits, 1Mic became one of the “go-to guys” for unsigned and signed artists to debut tracks, 1Mic has since worked with Sha Stimuli, Skyzoo, Jakk Frost and Geolani Grandz on mixtape projects. His projects have been reviewed by critics and been an obvious favorite of those critics, DJ 1Mic has moved on to solidified success garnering notoriety in the mixtape world, making the January 2008, November 2007, and October 2007 issues of Ozone Magazine, has was given the honor of a RapMullet.com superlative (critic award) for “Most Underated Exclusives On a Mixtape in 2007” and mentioned October 15th at MTV.com’s Mixtape Monday column.
Shout Out to the original BX crew yall know what it is, SPECIAL SHOUTS 2 DJ Mixx for helping mold me into the KING OF PA, without him, I'd still just be raw talent, spinning in circles, without a purpose or true meaning.
As always I gotta send the love out to EVERYONE who supported CrackGods back in the days, everyone who bumped my mixtapes when I couldn't afford cases and covers, when we was gettin it in the basement, when I had Green Street poppin, even the Georgetown Crossing days, thank you... I've came a long way and without ya'll tellin me I had this gift, I may have never believed in myself enough to push forward. I'll never forget any of you.
