where to begin
Well…, nowadays many of the records in circulation are so minimal that practically they don’t contain anything!
Frrrr… trrrrr… cli…. Tin, tin… crrrrr… prrrr… tin, tin, tin (‘tin’ is the bass drum, so small that it is often covered up by a ‘hi-hat’!). We are in a full ‘unscrewed’ phase, one of absolute sound masturbation.
In any case there is still a lot of lovely stuff around also and those who in some ways were pioneers of this sound are actually heading elsewhere. I can hear the return of a certain deepness and that sense of ‘hypnosis’ that is fundamental in the dance music that I am interested in. That’s better. I will say again that ‘trendy labels’ are of no use whatsoever apart for those who never know ‘which way’ to go and have continual need for some kind of indication, continual ‘sound road signs’ to follow. The roads are inside our heads. It is best to follow those ones but, if you can’t find them, you should probably change work
