From an early age Solace immersed himself in music. With the rise of dance music in the late 1980’s, he became an obsessive collector of the latest tunes on vinyl, and then through a curious series of events he found himself behind the decks at a local club in his hometown of Paisley. Standing back and surveying the crowd rocking to his tracks, Solace had found his passion.
Pioneering the early UK progressive labels such as Guerilla and Cowboy, while adding a sprinkling of US flavour tracks from Strictly Rhythm and others, Solace carved out a unique sound. Residencies followed quickly at The Hotel Club and The Garage in Paisley, legendary venue The Tunnel and the sold out 'Love' parties at the Plaza Ballrooms in Glasgow, Awesome 101 events, Bobby Browns club in Ayr, and he supplemented these with regular guest appearances at Joe Paparazzis in Glasgow and the Metropolis in Saltcoats.
He sped across the M8 and arrived in Edinburgh in 1995, a residency at the Citrus Club in his sights. With that secured, the following year he embarks on the Citrus Club World Tour, taking in amongst others Club for Life in Hong Kong and Zoom in Sydney. Solace is soon at the top of the Edinburgh club scene with residencies at the Vaults and the famous City Café.
Seeking out new horizons and challenges, he moves to Amsterdam in 2001, a weekly residency in the ultra-cool Cafe Bout is secured, and guest spots follow around the Netherlands.
In 2002 Dublin becomes the next destination for Solace, but it’s international travel instead of Guinness drinking that’s on the agenda, highlights of which include: The Netherlands (The Melkweg), Czech Republic (Club Naif, Creamfields After Party, Studio 54), Estonia (Sun Dance Music Festival), UK (The Cheek of It in London), France (aKademy and Le Quai in Paris), Belgium (Salle Bodega in Brussels) and Mexico (Cheetah Club and El Perro in Mexico City).
Internet Radio provides Solace another medium of broadcast. Since April 2005 he's been hosting the legendary monthly "Mean-Dream Sessions" show on DI.fm. He’s also provided sets for Pulse Radio, Dance One Radio, Belgium's leading dance authority U4EA FM and MAGMA. It wasn't just those with a broadband connection that got to hear his sounds either, Solace has also appeared on "The Club" on Triple J Radio, Australia's leading youth radio station.
Recent gigs have included DXO in Singapore, Progressive Zone in Brno, The Duplex in Prague, Club Unique in Slovakia, The Supperclub in Amsterdam, Traffic in Dublin, The Luxy in Taipei, Stara Voda in Croatia, Maxas in Lithuania, Studio in Budapest and the Park Bulldog Club in Slovakia. Upcoming are gigs in the US, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa, South America, Japan and more destinations in Europe. Watch this space for details!!
