Who I'd like to meet:
The 7th annual BelTek festival has been scheduled for July 31st and August 1st, 2009!
It's time to mark your calendars and start making plans to be a part of the 7th annual BelTek Arts & Music Festival, held in Belmont, Maine. The festival starts on Friday, July 31st and continues with non-stop music until Sunday morning, August 2nd, 2009! This event is open to all ages.
The festival is centered around the dome tents, where djs and performers move the crowd for over 36 hours. The festival will also include fire-breathers, dancers, painters, sculptors, a graffiti art competition, and video installations. In addition to all of the art, expect to see a marketplace of vendors offering services and goods including coffee, food, clothes, fabric, jewelry, and hand-blown glass! Along with everything you remember from last year, expect the addition of several internationally acclaimed artists. More info coming soon.
Conceptualized and founded in 2002 by Rick Kidson (WERU programmer and Bel-Tek co-producer) Bel-Tek has been a labor of love for a dedicated group of electronic music fans in the mid-coast region. Their goal was to bring the experience of live electronic music to the people of Maine, in a safe, comfortable environment. Each year the festival has grown in length, attendance, and participation and is not only well known in the Northeast, but receiving international attention.
Last year, BelTek’s 6th, was the largest, most diverse yet, bringing together nearly 1300 people. Over two-dozen vendors & local artisans shared or sold their work. Over 35 djs and performers took the stage. The event greatly stimulated the local economy, from the local convenience stores, to local locksmiths (several people locked their keys in their cars).
Having accomplished the initial goal beyond all expectations, the group is now focused on expanding the audience and festival to include a diverse mix of artists. After 6 years of growing support, Bel-Tek is set to grow once again this year with more music, more art, and more music-lovers than ever before.
Camping is encouraged; porta-potties will be on site, and clean, running water will be available to all.
Bel-Tek's organizers want you to be there, and to participate in the festival activities. Anyone interested in sharing their unique art, skills, or goods should plan on coming to this one of a kind event. The deadline to sign up to be a part of this event is April 1st.
