My interests basically revolve around record collecting.
Once i collect a record it goes into being played, whether at home or whilst doing a live set.
Music
As it is virtually impossible to name my favourite tracks my top 5 tunes at this very moment in time stands at:
1. Rodney Franklin - Stay On in The Groove 1984.
2. Jazzie Ladies - Blowin' Your Mind 1983.
3. Salsoul Orchestra - Nice & Naasty 1976.
4. Boeing - Dance On The Beat 1982.
5. Hi Gloss - Im Totally Yours 1981.
Movies
I love the film "Thank God It's Friday" starring Jeff Goldblum as the owner of a nightclub disco in 1978.
I also love the 70's sex comedy Confessions of a .... series, and the Carry On films.
Television
The best program ever made has definetly got to be Only Fools & Horses.
Coming 2nd is even more difficult, it could be any of these: The Two Ronnies, Open All Hours, Porridge, The Young Ones, Bottom, Just Good Friends, George & Mildred, Man About The House, Robin's Nest..........anything retro I suppose.
Books
Anything with pictures!
Heroes
My heroes are Steve Walsh, Froggy, Greg Edwards, Frankie Knuckles, Larry Levan, Walter Gibbons, Mr.P, Chris Phiilips, DJ Phillo, Victor Anderson, Tony "Sugaray" Brown (for which I would not be where I am today) & of course , the master and legend that is.......Robbie Vincent.
All of which are old school Soul/Funk DJs that I am influenced by.
Im a 26 year old DJ who loves to play Underground 70's & 80's Soul, Funk, Boogie, Rare Disco & Rare Groove with a bit of Soulful Deep Jazzy House.
I do a weekly internet radio show called The Good Groove on the premier House music station SSRadio, where we go WAY back & check out the history of underground club tracks from 1974 to 1988. http://www.ssradiouk.com Mondays 8am GMT.
I have a vinyl collection that must be bypassing 10,000 records by now & Im still only young!
I live with my girlfriend of over 6 years and have two beautiful daughters aged 5 & 3 (check the pics, they really are!).
Victor P, aka Nathan Victor Parry, born in July 1981 & considered to be something of a connoiseur for his age has a record collection that could shame even his influences!
Listening to recordings of shows by the likes of Robbie Vincent (Radio 1), Steve Walsh (County Sound) & Greg Edwards (Capital) at a VERY early age it was the start of something that was to progress into a BIG love for all things deep & Soulful.
Starting his record collecting at an Ascot car boot sale back in '91 (Still only 10 yrs old remember!) this was just the beginning, it also meant stealing from his Father's own collection regularly.
After being brought up on commercial Soul & Disco by artists such as Kool & The Gang, Earth, Wind & Fire, Evelyn 'Champagne' King along with Loose Ends, Freeez & Light Of The World - this would only lead to going just a little bit deeper!
After buying the Classic Mastercuts series compiled by Ian Dewhurst the discovery of the 'legendary' Salsoul Orchestra was a turning point, as far as He was concerned the only kind of Disco that exsisted was the kind on Top Of The Pops!
This opened up the world of proper underground Disco & links to super clubs The Loft, The Warehouse & Paradise Garage where Djs Frankie Knuckles & Larry Levan were spinning their trade......quality underground Soul & Disco rarities!
Labels such as P&P, Prelude, Salsoul, West End Records & many MANY tiny independent labels all played their part.
As well as discovering 'proper' Disco it was only a matter of time before Boogie followed, in 1980 they said that Disco was DEAD, it never died, it just went back underground where it came from & became Boogie.
After Boogie came mid 80s Soul & Electro which naturally progressed into the Soul II Soul era along with House music.
After winning a competition on pirate radio station Unknown FM in late 2005 it was clear that along with a large collection the knowledge was also there too, asked to name 3 artists & tracks being played during the 'Soul Food' show Victor named all 3 along with labels, years, writers & producers! Presenting the show was DjSugaray, who was quick to get in contact afterwards & help encourage & mentor Victor into presenting his own show 'The Good Groove' on SSRadiouk.com .
The show has been running since the summer of 2006 with listening figures rising all the time.
While its clear that Victor loves his music very Soulful, definetly Funky whilst sometimes Jazzy its no surprise that He also has a love for Deep House. Finding the time to track down Deep Soulful, Jazzy Lounge House tunes from the last 20 years to warm up various local Djs, its now His turn. Influences being the obvious Joey Negro, Norman Jay & Dimitri From Paris (all being pioneers of real Disco) & the more deeper Franck Roger & Matthew Bandy not to mention the Strictly Rhythm label.
With a vinyl collection in its double figured thousands not many Djs share the enthausiasm AND general BIG love for Soulful Dance music as Victor, considering his age He has a lot more to offer than most Djs TWICE as old! And thats only a good thing.
You can catch Victor P presenting 'The Good Groove' every Monday morning at 8am GMT on SSRadiouk.com - going back in time digging in the crates of quality 70s & 80s Soul, Funk, Boogie & Disco - the roots of all good House music.
Funk, Jazz, Disco , Electro, Boogie, Rare Groove, House music - its SOUL good!
