Nicknamed Mr. Everywhere because of his hectic schedule, DJ Bijal is a producer, mixtape DJ, and radio host who is well-known in the world of hip-hop, American urban music, and the Desi urban scene of his homeland. Born in Gujarat, India, Bijal moved to the U.S. when he was a toddler. His love of pop, R&B, hip-hop, reggae, and Indian music grew throughout his teens and he could always be counted on to arrive at the party with arms full of CDs. This influenced him to start experimenting with his cousin's DJ setup and eventually record his own mixtape by plugging the equipment into a crude recorder. It was 1999 and DJ Bijal started selling these mixtapes for two dollars apiece. Club gigs in Philadelphia and New York City plus enrollment at Long Island University came next. All the while Bijal's technique was evolving, with his beat mixing and scratching becoming more complex. His ability to put current hip-hop hits next to Indian Desi tracks in his set earned him a cult following and drew the attention of MTV, who declared him "the next big thing." Numerous features on MTV.com's Mixtape Mondays shows on both AOL Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio, plus an recognized by Serato Scratch Live, all coincided with more street-level work like mixtapes for Akon, Bone Crusher, and Tony Yayo. Always willing to try something new, Bijal began choosing some of his hosts from outside the world of music and collaborated with model Kaila Yu, porn star Julia Bond, and television host Rasika Mathur on various mixtapes. In 2007 he issued a popular mixtape tribute to Aaliyah titled More Than a Woman. ~ David Jeffries, AOL.com
