What do I learn?
To accommodate differing experience levels, DJ Camp is organized into three levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. All three levels allow campers free-form practice time in Open Session.
Ages 10-17 sessions run 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday - Friday. Ages 18 & Up Sessions run from 3p.m. - 7p.m. Monday - Friday . Extended camp hours are available Monday -
Friday from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. at a discounted rate for registered students. All others (not registered) interested in attending extended camp hours will be pro-rated. at Desert DJs' studios, 2719 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson, Ariz.
One-week Beginner Sessions
Beginner Camp will be held Monday-Friday 9am-1pm(Week session)
starting June 2nd - June 6th, June 16th - June 20th, June 30th - July 4th.

All sessions are held at Desert DJs' Tucson facilities.
Our Beginner Session teaches campers by combining lecture with hands-on application. The first half of each day is dedicated to lecture materials, covering introductory aspects of Dj-ing, including:
--What is a DJ?
--Differences between club, mobile, and radio
--Equipment components and setup
--Music genre and formats
--Programming
Campers are encouraged to take notes. Quizzes are given in an interactive manner to encourage group participation, with prizes and giveaways for the most accomplished campers.
The second half of each day in the Beginner session is dedicated to hands-on learning, including:
--Wiring a complete mobile DJ setup
--Trouble-shooting equipment and sound problems
--Mixing, cueing, blends, fades, cross-fading, breakpoints
--Programming of mixes
--Completion of music “sets”
The session concludes with a “mix-off” where campers compete for prizes by applying all that they have learned into one complete “set” that they then perform. Campers are judged by peers and counselors, and feedback is encouraged.

One-week Intermediate Sessions
Intermediate Camp will be held Monday-Friday 9am-1pm(Week session)
starting June 9th - June 13th, June 23rd - June 27th, July 7th - July 11th.
All sessions are held at Desert DJs' Tucson facilities.
Please note that you must complete a Beginner Session to qualify for an Intermediate Session.
Our intermediate session keeps with our formula of lecture, equipment hands-on, and practice, but allows much more hands-on time for more advanced DJ techniques. completion of the beginner session is a prerequisite. The lecture covers:
--Advanced programming
--Microphone technique
--Microphone and mixing—a tough balancing act
--Mixing, sampling, and loops
--Interaction
Campers are given equipment hands-on time both before and after the lecture, giving them the opportunity to apply what they have learned continuously.
Our equipment hands-on training covers:
--Fade, slam, dead air
--The microphone is your friend
--Mixing with the mic
--Beat-mixing
--Bringing it all together
The session concludes with an “ultimate mix-off” where campers compete for prizes by applying all that they have learned into one compete “set” that they then perform.
Campers are encouraged to use their newly-developed microphone skills in some form of interactive performance as well as their mixing techniques

One-week Advanced Sessions
July 2nd - 6th (no class on July 4th) and July 23rd - 27th.
All sessions are held at DJ Camp Tucson facilities.
Please note that you must complete an Intermediate Session to qualify for an Advanced Session.
Advanced Camp will be held Monday-Friday 9am-1pm(Week session)
starting July 14th - July 18th, July 21st - July 25th.Our advanced session keeps with our formula of lecture, hands-on, and practice, continues with one-on-one refinement of mixing and scratching technique, and delves into the world of professional scratch artists, including:
--Advanced scratching
--Digital mixing and remixing
--Refinement
Campers will have the opportunity to refine what they have learned in the previous sessions and pursue their technique to a higher level.
Campers completing the Advanced Session may be invited to DJ publicly at DJ Camp Promotional Functions, media promos and the End-of-Camp Blast.

Open Sessions operate during all other camp sessions, allowing participants plenty of free-form equipment hands-on practice time.
Our open session allows for campers to continue with hands-on application by practicing with various DJ equipment types. Staffers are on hand to answer any questions regarding the equipment, however this is strictly free time ad no mixing instruction is provided. They must provide their own music, and adhere to rules about acceptable music formats and volume levels.
