In 1992, a fifth grader named Cassidy Podell asked his parents to buy him deejay equipment for his eleventh birthday. When he was given two turntables and a mixer, DJ Cassidy was born. Today, DJ Cassidy is the most sought-after deejay in the industry, performing at major events all over the world. Cassidy’s eclectic client roster reads like a who’s-who of the entertainment world including the biggest names in music, fashion, film, television, media, and nightlife.
In addition to deejaying for many record labels, designers, production companies, networks, and publications, DJ Cassidy is personally called upon by today’s most high-profile celebrities. Among them, Sean “Diddy” Combs, who has hired Cassidy for countless events including his MTV Video Music Award, Grammy, and birthday parties, Jennifer Lopez who selected the deejay to spin at her wedding to Cris Judd and surprise birthday parties for husband Marc Anthony, and Jay-Z who secures Cassidy for all his events including birthday and album release parties as well as his wedding to Beyonce Knowles. Additional premiere clients include Russell and Kimora Lee Simmons who commission Cassidy to direct the music for their Phat Farm and Baby Phat fashion shows, Naomi Campbell who flies Cassidy to Saint-Tropez, Cannes, and Dubai for her annual birthday extravaganzas, and Oprah Winfrey for whom Cassidy performed in South Africa at her 2007 New Year’s Eve Ball. Aside from the entertainment industry’s elite, DJ Cassidy’s client list now includes world leaders as well. In January 2009, President Barack Obama requested Cassidy to provide the music for his Inauguration. Cassidy deejayed the Mid-Atlantic Ball and provided customized soundtracks for all nine other balls.
As a junior high-school student attending a private school in New York City, Cassidy quickly became the deejay-of-choice for the prep-school party circuit. “Those parties were a good start,” Cassidy recollects, “but I was hungry for an audience that would share my genuine appreciation for the music.” It wasn’t until Cassidy began attending George Washington University in Washington D.C. that he landed weekly jobs deejaying at New York City’s exclusive nightspots. The next year, Cassidy transferred to New York University. It was only then that the young deejay began to define his style and find an audience to truly appreciate it.
Today, DJ Cassidy has gained worldwide acclaim for exciting crowds through his unique capacity to effortlessly blend musical genre no matter the client or setting. “As a child, I was surrounded by all forms of music and, as I grew up and began to evolve as a deejay, it was only natural for me to incorporate all these musical influences into what I do.” Cassidy's clients not only rely on the artist to capture sounds that are hot and cutting-edge, but also those that are classic and timeless. Described as a "walking cultural movement" by Giant Magazine Editor-In-Chief, Emil Wilbekin, Cassidy continues to surprise audiences with his uncanny ability to connect musically to everyone within his reach. Drawing on hip hop, soul, house, rock, reggae, and more, DJ Cassidy can inspire all people with all music. “There is simply no crowd I can’t move and there is no better feeling than that."
