COAST TO COAST
London. A world city recognised for its revolutionary fashion, groundbreaking art and most of all, as a melting pot of international music and club culture. By the 1950s and 60s London clubs had taken on new life and acquired international mystique. The Flamingo, The Scene Club, Ronnie Scott's, the Scotch of St.James and Count Suckle's Blues Party were the only places to be seen for the nouveau-riche of the swinging sixties. As well as the soul, ska, blues, rock and roll of the various, and now legendary, clubs there was gambling and all manner of entertainment to be had at the drop of a hat. In the mid-1960s there was nowhere to compare to London after dark.
With tougher gambling laws, crackdowns on unregistered venues and strict licensing laws the hey-day of London nightlife may have passed in our opinion but the spirit of the city lives on. The spirit of the great clubs and cellar dives can still be found at certain venues around the metropolis even now.
Part West-Indian blues party, part 60s Soul night. DJ Cello's Coast to Coast is the new scene in London. Whether you are visiting London for the weekend or living and working in the Smoke, Coast to Coast is the main event in Town at this time. An eclectic fusion of Northern Soul, Reggae, Ska, Funk & Boogaloo combine in one of the unique club nights in Europe. Packed out with all types, you get your drinks at pub prices and enjoy classic, and rare black music from the 60s & early 70s in an atmosphere more like your best friend's birthday party, a truly special event in London Town.
Read on through the Coast to Coast website for more information about this now legendary club night in this most special, most exciting and most hippest city - London Town....

FREETOWN - SAT AUG 29th - LIVE SKA
Tonight DJ CELLO welcomes for the second time at COAST TO COAST, live guests Freetown which promises to be a fantastic gig! 'Freetown' were last years guests at the 'COAST TO COAST CARNIVAL WEEKEND PARTY' celebration and blew the crowd away with their jumping, stomping blend of ska & rocksteady. ‘Freetown’ have been performing ska live for nearly ten years. This is a band that set out to capture the excitement of the original jamaican ska in their own live set, playing well-loved standards as well as their own original songs. ‘Freetown’ have been lucky enough to work as the backing band for ‘Laurel Aitken’, ‘Owen Gray’, and ‘Derrick Morgan’, and their guidance and inspiration has been priceless. Freetown have often back the sensational ‘Alton Ellis’, both abroad and here in the UK, as well as continuing to set audiences alight with their own brand of spontaneous and fun-filled Ska, Reggae and Rocksteady.
@ ON THE ROCKS, 25 - 27 Kingsland Road, London E2. 10.00pm - Late. Door £6 (Freetown on stage at 11pm)
