Music
First and foremost, the greatest band in the world to me is RUSH! My second favorite band is 311. After that I like just about all kinds of music with a stong bias toward 80's retro. NIN, Earth Wind and Fire, Mana, Beck, Moby, Matisyahu, NWA, Social D, Celia Cruz, RUN-DMC, Steely Dan and Fatboy Slim are other examples of what can be found in my stereo at any given time. Other favorites: New Order, Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, Morrissey, The Specials, Book Of Love, Anything Box, X-21, Communion, Cotton, Mineral Spirits, Kactus Juice, Minisrty (old and new), At The Drive In, Sparta, Mars Volta, Jeff Buckley, Big Wreck, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and many, many more!
Movies
STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS!
The rest (in no particular order): GLORY ROAD, Pulp Fiction, Pi, Say Anything, Trainspotting, The Wood, Napoleon Dynamite, The Warriors, King Kong (old, and new), American Beauty, The Getaway (original - filmed in El Paso), The 40-Year Old Virgin, Beverly Hills Cop, Wedding Crashers, Sin City, The Incredibles, Batman Begins, Swingers, Go, Kill Bill (1 & 2), Young Frankenstein, History of the World (I & II), Monty Python and the Holy Grail...to be continued...
Books
I just finished reading "DOMAIN" by Steve Alten. I picked it up for $5 at B&N because there were some interesting parrallels between it and our comic book "SPIRALMIND". "DOMAIN" is the first of a trilogy, the next being "RESURRECTION" and the third, "PHOBOS". At my rate, I should finish the trilogy by 2012! Loved "COMIC WARS" by Dan Reviv, about the corporate raiders that almost demolished the comic book industry with their egos and army of lawyers (another $5 B&N find). I am currently reading a book called "Making Movies" by Sidney Lumet.
I also dig anything by or about Jack Kerouac: "On The Road", "The Dharma Bums", "Big Sur" are some titles I have read. I know, I know, I'm a slow reader!

Welcome to the dj chachi myspace! I created this space primarily to spread the word about the small, independent comic book company that myself and two friends started in 2004, Phi3 COMICS in El Paso, Texas and to promote my mobile DJ service - DeJa vu DJ and MC Services. Before I get into all that allow me to elaborate a bit more on where I come from and what I'm all about.
I was born in 1972 in El Paso, Texas just six years after Texas Western College (now UTEP) rocked the nation by winning the NCAA championship (the only Texas team to do so to date). I'm the youngest of six, born to a Catholic mother and a Jewish father. I played football from fifth grade through high school where I also played baseball and tennis. After graduating high school, I attended Boston University to pursue a degree in aerospace engineering. It was there that I discovered table tennis and soon I was secretary of BUTTA (Boston University Table Tennis Association).
I quickly realized the lack of aerospace engineering jobs in the market and switched majors to mechanical engineering. To save a few thousand bucks, I transferred to UTEP (The University of Texas at El Paso) to complete my degree. Back in El Paso, I hooked up with some friends from high school and started a mobile DJ service "DeJa vu DJ and MC Services" (still doing business and ready to play your event today!) At UTEP, a commuter school, I was missing the "college" feel that I had in Boston, I decided to create an organization to start a college radio station. With about a dozen dedicated members, the College Radio Association was formed and we spent several semesters "convincing" the powers that be that UTEP needed a college radio station. We were given the authority to tap into existing, defunct speakers located in the ceiling of the student union building and allowed to set up equipment in the corner of the student activities office. On Martin Luther King Day 1995, KVOX was born! (I believe the name was changed to KORE and it is still in operation).
While trying to graduate with a degree in mechanical engineering, mobile DJing, and starting a college radio station, I became the unlikely manager of an alternative, semi-punk band (chunk-rock if you will). "Cotton" became my family and getting them gigs, my passion. Opening for "A Flock of Seagulls" and being the first to do .."un-plugged".. sets in El Paso bars were some of their highlights. They also performed at a Battle of The Bands at the Huntridge Theater in Las Vegas in summer 1995 (a week later the roof collapsed, just before "The Circle Jerks" were set to perform...coincidence?).
My dj bio:
I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, a DJ by desire. I started djing in 1992 when I was 20 years old. A buddy and I put our two Sony discman players together, hooked them up to my brother's mixer/amp and a pair of ROSS speakers and "Deja vu DJ and MC Services" and "DJ Chachi" were born! We had steady gigs over the years and had a few "lucky" breaks along the way doing everything from weddings to fashion shows. It was in 1996 that I got my first club gig at a brand new place (at the time) called "The Realm". It was a "New York stlye" club in the middle of downtown El Paso and opening night literally had the line wrapping around TWO blocks TWICE. The Realm, formerly a two level department store, had two clubs - the main room with high ceilings and a 3rd floor VIP area overlooking the dancefloor, and downstairs - the "Inferno". Along with DJ Chase, we had that place jam packed Friday and Saturday nights. Later, I was given the opportunity to spin at Club 101 (my favorite club since I was 17). I have maintained "Deja vu DJ and MC Services" to this day. I joined forces with DJ Ceasar (of Club 101) in 2005 and we could be found spinning 80's Retro, New Wave and Dark Wave tunes on Friday nights at the Velvet Rose Lounge before the entire place (including the Sunset Motel) were leveled. Ceasar is back at it elsewhere (Soho Lounge), but I needed a break to complete my MBA, to complete the first issue of SPIRALMIND and to work on my book (and yours)- CLUB 101 STORIES! More on that here: http://www.myspace.com/club101stories

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?
A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:
Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella
Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.
Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.
I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=UaIim3Rj7L4
